The Senior Loan Officer is a seasoned lending professional responsible for originating, underwriting, and closing real estate-backed loans and New Market Tax Credits source/leveraged loans for community facilities such as charter schools, early childhood education centers, and health clinics. This position plays a crucial role in deploying capital that improves the quality of life in under-resourced communities. The Senior Loan Officer helps drive the implementation of LIIF’s community facilities strategy and contributes to achieving annual lending production goals, while supporting internal collaboration and cross-team alignment.

Responsibilities
• Source, structure, and underwrite complex community facility loan transactions.
• Analyze borrower financial statements, project feasibility, and collateral value.
• Navigate regulatory, legal, and financial considerations to mitigate risk.
• Collaborate with internal credit officers and legal counsel to manage due diligence and ensure timely closings.
• Build and maintain relationships with key borrowers, sponsors, and referral sources.
• Participate in joint outreach with Communications, the DNCFL, and the Vice President & Market Director to grow organization presence.
• Contribute to the development of a qualified, mission-aligned lending pipeline.
• Partner with internal departments, including Asset Management, Loan Administration, and Finance, to maintain portfolio quality (timely payments, financial reporting, data collection, etc.)
• Deploy LIIF’s. Department of Education Credit Enhancement Awards to eligible charter schools.
• Support deployment of LIIF’s Bond Guarantee Program Awards to eligible projects.
• Monitor utilization milestones to ensure full drawdown of funds within timelines.
• Work closely with internal teams (e.g., Underwriting, Asset Management, Legal) to coordinate term sheets, closings, and reporting.
• Collaborate with Director and Lending Leadership to test and refine new loan products.
• Offer feedback from borrower experience and market trends to improve product-market fit.
• Monitor shifts in community development finance, e.g., NMTC policy, healthcare trends, charter school funding.
• Represent LIIF at sector events and participate in knowledge-sharing networks.
• Share on-the-ground insights to inform organizational strategy and policy engagement.
• Provide mentorship or onboarding support for junior staff.
• Participate in cross-functional projects, annual strategic planning, and organizational meetings.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, business, urban planning, or related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in lending, community development finance, or CDFI operations.
• Proven expertise in loan origination, underwriting, deal structuring, and risk mitigation.
• Strong experience with charter school, early childcare & education, health facility, or community facility financing.
• Advanced financial analysis skills, particularly in nonprofit and real estate financials.
• Deep knowledge of CDFI industry standards, NMTCs, and public subsidy layering.
• Familiarity with federal, state, and local funding sources for community development.
• Strong strategic planning, time-management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Track record of building and maintaining relationships with borrowers, partners, and public agencies.
• Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration and mentoring junior staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and financial or CRM database systems.
