Senior Legal Counsel

This is a flexible position and has the option of working in our Toronto office full time, hybrid throughout the week or working entirely remotely.Vena is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its growing Legal team and support a high-growth SaaS organization as it continues to scale. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, this role will serve as a trusted legal partner to the business, providing hands-on, solutions-oriented advice across a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and general legal matters.The ideal candidate is a seasoned lawyer who thrives in cross-functional collaboration, brings strong business judgment, and is driven to build scalable legal processes in a high growth technology company operating in rapidly evolving environment.
How You'll Make an Impact
Provide practical, commercially-focused legal advice across corporate/commercial, privacy, regulatory, employment, and intellectual property mattersDraft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including SaaS subscription agreements, MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, and other customer, partner, reseller, and vendor contractsAct as a legal business partner to Sales, Customer Success, Product, Finance, People, Marketing, and Operations teamsSupport privacy, data protection, and regulatory compliance initiatives in a SaaS environmentAdvise on employment-related matters, including drafting employment agreements, supporting employee relations escalations, and advising on compliance with applicable employment legislation across Canadian jurisdictions, the US and the UKAssist with corporate governance, transactional, and risk management activities, including internal policies and compliance workflowsHelp manage external counsel relationships to ensure high-quality advice and cost-effective legal spendContribute to the development and optimization of Legal team operations, including contract templates, playbooks, workflows, automation, and process improvementsSupport internal compliance training and education initiatives to foster a culture of complianceTake on additional responsibilities and projects as the Legal team and company continue to growTravel as required to support key company events (e.g. company kickoffs, team on-sites, team-building events, etc.)
We'd Love to See
Qualified lawyer licensed to practice law in Ontario (or another Canadian jurisdiction with eligibility to transfer)7–10 years of post-call experience with a strong foundation in technology and commercial lawExperience gained at a leading Canadian law firm and/or in-house at a technology or SaaS companyDemonstrated experience negotiating technology and SaaS agreementsWorking knowledge of privacy/data protection, employment, and IP issues relevant to SaaS businessesStrong business judgment with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectivesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environmentComfort with legal technology, contract management tools, and process improvementAI-first mindset with demonstrated curiosity and experimentation with legal AI tools, contract automation, and emerging legal technology use casesPrior in-house experience at a high-growth technology company preferred Experience supporting cross-border or international commercial arrangementsInterest in contributing to legal best practices, playbooks, and operational improvementsEducational RequirementsJuris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degreeMember in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario (or eligible to transfer)The salary range for this role is $166,840 - 225,724 CAD.*Our salaries are tailored to roles, levels and locations.
