Role Description


This role involves being part of a smart, collaborative legal team where your opinion matters and your work helps shape how we do business.



Advising senior stakeholders on legal and quasi-legal matters


Negotiating big contracts


Supporting underwriting, claims, and finance


Primary responsibility for advising all levels of stakeholder Group-wide


Driving Group and team level strategy and particular projects


Expertise in commercial contracts, including SAAS, IT, Licence, data processing, IP, material outsourcing, and loan agreements


Working closely with key business stakeholders including Underwriting, Finance, Tax, and Claims teams


Drafting a wide variety of agreements (both regulated and non-regulated)


Managing challenges from regulatory or quasi-regulatory bodies such as HMRC


Overseeing the maintenance of the Group’s Contracts Register, Intellectual Property, Litigation Register, and Legal Issues Register


Supporting broker and distribution ancillary activities including consumer lending and CCJs


Conducting legal research and providing advice on a range of legal matters


Advising on regulatory issues, particularly FCA, Gibraltar Financial Services, and Guernsey Financial Services matters


Reviewing, drafting, and leading negotiations of a range of commercial contracts


Advising on matters of general company law and broader corporate/strategic matters


Drafting company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation


Liaising with stakeholders for relevant documentation and maintaining an accessible filing system


Managing the companies’ County Court decisions log and liaising with the Courts


Engaging with relevant departments to manage risks related to CCJs


Working in conjunction with the Group General Counsel on legal and regulatory issues


Supervising, supporting, and mentoring junior team members


Handling bailiffs and communicating with relevant departments


Ensuring compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy



Qualifications



Qualified Lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) in England & Wales (or equivalent)


Circa 5+ years PQE, ideally with in-house and/or private practice experience


Strong background in insurance, financial services, or regulated environments


Confident negotiating commercial contracts including outsourcing


Excellent communication, research, and organisational skills


Strong commercial awareness and risk management mindset


Experience with mentoring or managing junior legal professionals



Requirements



Proven Legal Experience - worked as a lawyer in-house and/or in private practice


Qualified & Practised - a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a strong/provable track record


Insurance Industry Know-How - experience from Insurance, Financial Services, or another commercial setting


Strong Stakeholder Management - confident communicating with senior leaders


Coaching & Mentoring Skills - enjoy developing others and sharing knowledge
