Senior Internal Auditor – Environmental Compliance / Landfill / Health & Safety

POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for planning, performing and reporting auditing activities in various business units of the Company. The Senior Internal Auditor performs auditing activities and audits that are designed to examine and evaluate the adequacy of the Company’s internal control structure with regards to the accuracy and completeness of reporting and adherence to Company policies, procedures, and standards.

This role will support financial and operational audits with a particular emphasis on environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) compliance and landfill operations. Candidates with experience in environmental compliance, EH&S programs, landfill operations, or related regulatory environments are strongly preferred. The position requires the ability to perform in-person fieldwork at landfill and hauling locations while evaluating operational processes, compliance practices, and internal controls.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:Â

o  Performs defined audit procedures to test internal controls and compliance with Company policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.

o  Provides feedback and input during the planning phase of an audit on the scope of Internal Audit testing based upon an understanding of business and accounting processes, the specific and changing needs of the area to be audited, and the risks and business practices of the Company.

o  Coordinates audit activity and communicates status and results to the audit team, the Internal Audit project manager and the Internal Audit functional managers.

o  Clearly and concisely documents audit test procedures and results.

o  Identifies, assesses and reports on exceptions to compliance with Company policies, procedures, standards and guidelines and weaknesses in internal controls.

o  Discusses audit results with management in both written and verbal formats and recommends corrective actions.

o  Develops ongoing positive relationships with business units, corporate management and audit team members.

o  Assists with the training and development of internal audit staff.

o  Travel by air, car or other modes of transportation may be required up to 50% of the time.

o  Performs other job related duties as assigned or apparent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Â

o  Relevant certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other relevant certifications.

o  2 years of audit/accounting experience at Big 4/ or Fortune 500 preferred.

o  Knowledge of Diligent, Workiva, ACL, IDEA, or other data analytic software preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Â

o  Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Pay range $82,600- $113,500 DOE
