Senior Infrastructure Engineer (OpenStack) – Australia Location: Australia (Remote) Department: Infrastructure Reports to: Head of Infrastructure About NexGen Cloud & Hyperstack We are building next-generation GPU cloud infrastructure. NexGen Cloud is the company behind Hyperstack , a high-performance cloud platform designed for compute-intensive workloads. The Role This role exists because our platform is scaling quickly — and complexity comes with it. As we expand our OpenStack and Kubernetes environments globally, we need engineers who can take real ownership of how the platform is designed, operated and improved. This is not a maintenance role. You’ll be working on business-critical infrastructure that directly impacts performance, reliability and customer experience. Key Responsibilities Platform Ownership Own the design, deployment and operation of OpenStack and Kubernetes environments Ensure platform performance, scalability and resilience for GPU workloads Infrastructure & Automation Build and improve infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices Drive automation across provisioning, deployment and operational workflows Performance & Reliability Optimise GPU workload scheduling using Kubernetes and NVIDIA tooling Implement monitoring, logging and alerting to ensure platform stability Lead incident response and continuous improvement of reliability Security & Architecture Maintain strong security controls across infrastructure and container layers Implement RBAC, network policies and tenant isolation Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Platform, DevOps, AI, Product and Support teams Align infrastructure capabilities with customer and platform requirements What We’re Looking For Core Experience Strong hands-on experience running OpenStack in production environments Proven experience operating Kubernetes at scale (ideally bare-metal or private cloud) Solid understanding of Linux, networking and storage systems Experience with infrastructure automation, CI/CD and Git-based workflows Capabilities Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and performance issues Strong ownership mindset — comfortable operating without heavy oversight Ability to simplify and scale systems in a fast-moving environment Nice to Have (Not Essential) Experience integrating Kubernetes with OpenStack Exposure to GPU infrastructure, HPC or large-scale compute environments Familiarity with advanced networking or cloud-native ecosystems Contributions to open-source projects What You’ll Get Competitive salary + discretionary bonus 25 days holiday + public holidays Fully remote working (Australia-based) High ownership and autonomy The chance to work on genuinely complex, high-performance infrastructure Clear progression as the business scales Why NexGen Cloud We’re not running standard cloud infrastructure.
