Senior Firmware Engineer, ML/Edge AI
Job Description: • Design and develop edge AI, multimedia, and camera infrastructure for video-safety products and vehicle gateways. • Influence a team of engineers on Video-Safety products and Vehicle-Gateway, solving complex technical problems and guiding architectural tradeoffs. • Assume ownership in maintaining production systems managed by your team and provide operational support and supervision when necessary. • Participate in roadmap planning sessions; collaborate with cross-functional peers to define technical direction, priorities, tooling, and release infrastructure. • Ensure AI algorithms run accurately and within device constraints on the edge. • Partner closely with Hardware team in defining and building next generation devices. • Mentor other engineers and raise technical standards. • Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles across the organization. Requirements: • 6+ years of relevant experience in embedded software development, preferably with a focus on embedded Linux systems. • Strong experience in programming with Golang, C/C++, or similar. • Proven experience defining and implementing scalable embedded software architecture. • Proven experience planning, designing, scoping and delivering complex, multi-team, or cross-system long-term projects, involving external dependencies. • A desire to mentor and grow engineers of all levels. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with senior executives as well as junior engineers. • Commitment to rigorous testing & validation practices. • Experience working with teams across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to Product Management, Cloud Software, Machine Learning, and Hardware. • Ability to secure and maintain the legal right to work at the company and in the specified work location (work authorization requirement). • (Ideal) Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. • (Ideal) Experience with one or more of: Edge Camera Systems, Video Capture, Video Encoding, Embedded AI. • (Ideal) Familiarity with a diverse set of quality/testing practices and continuous integration tooling.
