Location: Remote within the U.S. (except in AK, HI, ID, LA, MT, NM, ND, OK, OR, VT, WV, and WY)

Hours: Full-time (40 Hours/Week)

The Senior Editor is primarily responsible for writing compelling, and engaging content to share with stakeholders that reflects Bethany’s messaging and mission. This individual will also provide oversight to freelance or in-house proofreader(s) and copywriter(s) to ensure the communication goals are met before publishing the product. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to provide superior writing, while developing content that captures Bethany’s voice and connects intellectually, logically, and emotionally with multiple target audiences. This position is expected to function effectively with limited supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for questions and inquires related to brand voice and copywriting for the organization;
• Gather and develop feature and supplementary stories and articles by interviewing staff, clients, donors, board members, and volunteers;
• Provide oversight to and manage freelance or in-house proofreader(s) to ensure communication goals are met;
• Provide oversight to and manage freelance or in-house copywriter(s), while also assisting in content development;
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Video and Photography across locations to capture written stories;
• Effectively collaborate with the Content Manager to ensure message consistency;
• Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s level degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field of study from an accredited college;
• At least five (5) years of editorial experience, including writing, editing, and managing content;
• At least one (1) year of public grant funding experience;
• Experience leading editorial teams and overseeing content strategy across platforms;
• Experience in child/family welfare agency, a plus;
• Strong organization, prioritization, time management, and interpersonal skills;
• Project management experience;
• Strong attention to detail and highly organized;
• Must be creative and inspiring with work product;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent editing and proofreading skills;
• Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
• Exercise a high level of confidentiality and integrity;
• Work well under pressure and adaptable to change;
• Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions;
• Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
• Must be 21 years old with a valid driver's license with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
• Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate coverage;
• Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
• Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
