Senior Developer (COBOL / TAL)

Kunai is hiring a Senior Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, TAL, and TACL to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working in banking or financial services and a proven ability to design, enhance, and support large-scale, mission-critical applications on Tandem/NonStop systems. Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using COBOL, TAL, and TACL. Enhance and modernize legacy systems while ensuring high availability and reliability. Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize system performance in production environments. Document technical designs, processes, and best practices. Support deployments, production incidents, and system upgrades. Required Skills & Experience 5 + years of experience in software development, with a focus on COBOL, TAL, and TACL. Strong knowledge of Tandem/HP NonStop systems. Experience in transaction processing systems and batch programming. Proficiency with SQL/Enscribe databases (NonStop SQL preferred). Familiarity with Guardian OS and Tandem utilities. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in large-scale production environments. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Skills Background in banking, financial services, or payments systems. Exposure to modernization efforts (APIs, microservices, or cloud integration with legacy systems). Knowledge of networking, security, and performance tuning on NonStop platforms. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git).
