As the inaugural data hire, you’ll architect the systems, pipelines, and data culture that will power our scale. This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership from day one, influence the future of our data stack, and grow alongside a mission-driven, high-impact team.The Data Engineer is a multifaceted role that bridges the gap between robust data infrastructure and high-performance product development. You’ll architect scalable data pipelines and maintain our cloud-based data systems, while also contributing to the operational backend codebase that powers our healthcare platform. In this role, you will ensure that data is available to make meaningful business decisions and fulfill business reporting needs. You ensure a full data lifecycle ranging from collection, cleaning, maintenance, usage, and disposal. You work with other teams (business, finance, clinical) to understand their data needs and make information available to them.ResponsibilitiesDesign & Build Data Pipelines: Architect, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure using AWS S3, MySQL, and AWS Glue, to enable seamless data ingestion, transformation, and storage.Experience maintaining dynamic dashboards and visualizations using tools like Tableau, Looker, and ExcelSupport backend data flows and product logic integration (Optional/Bonus): Contribute to backend systems development using Java (Spring Boot) or other frameworksCollaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with Data Analysts and product developers to define data models, refine data workflows, and enhance our overall codebase.Optimize & Automate: Implement best practices for ETL processes and backend development, ensuring system performance, reliability, and data integrity.Innovate Continuously: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in both data engineering and backend development to drive continuous improvement and innovation across our platform.Support backend data flows and product logic integrationServe as a key data engineering resource for tier 2 support requests and system improvementsCommunicate with stakeholders in the U.S. and Austria (occasional early-morning meetings due to time zone differencesQualifications and Job RequirementsExperience: A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering—experience with backend technologies is a significant plus.Strong proficiency with AWS S3, MySQL, and AWS Glue, as well as other relevant technologies, for building and optimizing data pipelines.As a plus: solid experience with backend development frameworks (Java/Spring Boot or others) and a good grasp of backend architecturesProficient in Python and/or other scripting languages used for data manipulation.A product-minded approach: you think about the “why” behind the data.What We Offer100% Remote Work: Enjoy the freedom to work from the location that helps you thrive.
