Job Title: Cloud Engineer Location: Remote Type: Full-Time Summary statement We are seeking a Cloud Engineer who loves solving complex problems and making a difference. You will drive the architecture, optimization, and governance of our mission-critical cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable and secure cloud infrastructure solutions across platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud. This role is vital for the proper execution of cloud strategy, automation, and DevOps initiatives while ensuring optimal system performance and cost-efficiency. You'll join a diverse team of epidemiologists, engineers, data scientists, front-line disease controllers, and national security practitioners. Responsibilities Infrastructure Assessment and Optimization: Assess current infrastructure and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement Cloud Productionization Strategy Development: Develop strategies for productionizing cloud computing applications Standardization and Governance of Cloud Applications: Ensure standardization and governance of cloud-based applications within the organization Development and Maintenance of Cloud-Based Systems: Develop, oversee, and maintain cloud-based applications and systems (working closely with engineering and data science teams) Cloud Service Provider Management: Manage relationships with cloud service providers, such as GCP and AWS Implement the strategies for managing cloud infrastructure, storage, and software Implement the CI/CD strategies for the PHC Global software across deployment environments, along with cloud deployment, containerization strategy, reliability and performance, security and availability, monitoring and alerting, and disaster recovery. Deploy security controls, define access policies, and implement automation scripts using tools like Terraform to enforce compliance and support audits/investigations, as needed. Execute and troubleshoot SaaS application deployment procedures. Develop and improve automation and procedures in the cloud environment. Creating and maintaining technical documents for cloud infrastructure and related processes Implement government-specific frameworks for PHC Global’s cloud-hosted software, such as FedRAMP and the Department of Defense (DoD) Impact Levels (ILs) for cloud environments. Interact with customers to provide engineering solutions and support compliance activities (e.g., IATT, ATO) with potential travel to on-site interactions with the customer Lead internal IT and InfoSec activities Experience & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field 5+ years professional experience in a Cloud Engineering, SRE, or Cloud Operations role Proficiency working with cloud service providers, particularly GCP Proven hands-on experience in implementing and managing Cloud/Engineering Operations, monitoring, and observability Experience in hands on programming (scripting with bash, python, etc.) and Terraform Strong understanding of DevOps and CloudOps principles and being capable of building highly available reproducible infrastructure Strong communication skills with a high emphasis on the ability to explain technology in business terms and to express opinions clearly Solutions oriented – ability to creatively solve problems on the fly Ability to participate in on-call rotation Ability to quickly ramp up on new technologies and best practices Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently across multiple projects Must be able to work well with a variety of colleagues possessing a range of technical abilities and knowledge Must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident Security clearance-eligible WHO WE ARE The team supports remote-first employment and candidates from anywhere in the US are welcome to apply. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Total compensation includes salary and stock option grants. The salary range for this position is between $150,000 to $200,000, and individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. PHC offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, wellbeing offerings, 401K, unlimited PTO, paid holidays, and a work from home stipend.
