Senior Backend Engineer
Join us at DNL and help shape the backend of a truly developer-focused platform. We’re building Germany's leading AI-powered tools that analyse financial and non-financial reports. Using state-of-the-art machine learning technologies, we extract key figures from annual financial statements - fully automatically and transparently. Tasks Short-term: Skill Building & Impactful Contributions (0-3 months) Write clean, scalable backend code and design components that enhance performance and responsiveness. Perform rigorous testing and debugging to ensure high system reliability. Integrate machine learning models into product features to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Mid-term: Specialization & Ownership (3-6 months) Develop expertise in a focus area that supports both your professional growth and DNL’s mission. Initiate and lead a meaningful project or feature that has a measurable impact. Experience mentoring or guiding other developers, formally or informally, and an interest in shaping team culture. Design and maintain RESTful APIs and real-time communication systems using WebSockets. Continuously refine the codebase, introduce security improvements, and help prioritize new features. Long-term: Leadership & Strategy (6-12 months) Influence architectural decisions and guide technology choices that shape our products. Align tech efforts with business strategy by developing a strong understanding of product needs. Take an active mentoring role - lead code reviews, set best practices, and help scale our engineering processes. Requirements Education & Experience : A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field, and at least 5+ years of professional backend experience (or equivalent proven expertise) of hands-on experience as a Python backend developer. Frameworks : Solid knowledge in building microservices using Flask, FastAPI, or similar tools. You're confident with writing tests using pytest and comfortable building robust test suites. Technical Skills : Proficient with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment, preferably on Azure with Kubernetes. Bonus points for experience in machine learning or theoretical foundations. You’ve worked extensively with scalable microservice and event-driven architectures. Leadership : Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset; you enjoy helping others grow while driving technical excellence.
