Senior Backend Developer Elixir / Phoenix / PostgreSQL Full-time | Remote | Immediate Start | [Up to $3,000/month gross] About Estyl Estyl is a fashion-tech startup building an AI stylist app that helps people discover and shop outfits personalized to their taste. We combine computer vision, LLMs, and backend systems to turn product data and user signals into smart, shoppable recommendations. Based in Italy, operating globally, backed by one of Europes largest fashion-tech pre-seeds (2024). Role overview Own and scale the backend systems that power accounts, subscriptions, referrals, usage limits, and event tracking. You will lead work across API, data layer, background jobs, and event processing, setting quality standards for reliability, performance, and privacy. < δενWhat you'll do • Build and maintain APIs in Elixir/Phoenix • Design and evolve PostgreSQL schemas with Ecto migrations (constraints, indexes) • Implement atomic operations using Ecto.Multi • Build and operate background jobs with Oban • Consume events with Broadway from with strict idempotency • Maintain fast usage limit tracking using Mnesia and safe sync patterns to PostgreSQL • Implement caching where safe using Nebulex (TTLs, invalidation, correctness first) • Ship GDPR-safe workflows for user PII: anonymization, deletion, retention • Debug production issues acrossദേശം queries, jobs, and message processing • Write integration tests for end-to-end flows across API, jobs, and persistence Must have • 5+ years backend engineering experience, including ownership of production systems • Strong experience with Elixir, or deep BEAM background and proven ability to ramp fast on Phoenix/Ecto • Strong PostgreSQL fundamentals: schema design, indexing, transactions • Proven track record shipping and managing migrations safely • Background job experience in production (Oban, Sidekiq, Celery, Bull, or similar) • Event-driven systems experience (Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar) • Strong debugging skills (performance, reliability, data consistency) • Strong privacy mindset and GDPR familiarity Requirements • Shipped production systems with real operational ownership • Strong automation, ownership, and ability to work independently • English C1+.
