Senior Associate | Company Incubation & Investing | $3.5bn Biotech Fund
Our client manages over $3.5bn in assets under management, with portfolio companies advancing innovation across oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, neurology, and a broad set of technologies spanning the care continuum.
The fund is hiring an investment professional to support research and development focused affiliates that identify, support, and fund early stage science. These affiliates work closely with academic founders and entrepreneurs to translate discoveries from the lab into new companies that are primed for seed stage investment by the fund. In parallel, this hire will play an active role on the core investment team, evaluating and investing in SMID cap public biotech companies.
The strategy is long only, highly concentrated, and driven by deep scientific conviction.
The role spans both pre clinical and clinical diligence. The individual may diligence early discovery platforms as well as Phase 1 clinical assets, assess whether an asset is viable from both a scientific and commercial perspective, evaluate indication level attractiveness and valuation, and build basic financial models to support investment decisions.
The investment team consists of 8 professionals operating within a flat, highly collaborative structure. Investment decisions are made as a group, with input valued equally regardless of seniority or functional background.
The fund operates remotely, with flexibility to work from any city, provided the individual is comfortable working east coast hours.
Position Summary
This individual will help drive company incubation efforts across multiple avenues and work closely with a broad set of stakeholders to identify and develop promising early stage technologies aligned with the fund’s investment thesis. Responsibilities include:
• Partnering with principal investors to evaluate scientific platforms and their extensibility for new company creation
• Diligencing pre clinical and clinical assets, including Phase 1 programs, to assess scientific merit, translational risk, and commercial viability
• Evaluating indication level opportunity, competitive landscape, and valuation considerations
• Building and maintaining basic financial models to support investment theses
• Staying current on scientific advances through journals, publications, and industry news to proactively source opportunities
• Working with entrepreneurs to define business opportunities and outline proof of concept studies for academic research and seed funding
• Driving internal recommendations with the investment team
• Assessing the attractiveness and feasibility of new company formation
• Leading company formation efforts and preparing opportunities for seed investment
Experience
• Master’s or PhD required in an analytical science or engineering discipline from a top tier academic institution
• 2 or more years of post PhD experience in a non lab setting, including investing, consulting, equity research, or business development
