Orbital Engineering is seeking a talented and motivated Senior AI Engineer with expertise in agentic systems, LLMs, and SLMs to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of next-generation AI applications. This is a fully remote position within the United States. This role will focus on designing and implementing custom agentic workflows that enable autonomous reasoning, decision-making, and multi-step execution across internal and external systems. You will play a key role in architecting intelligent agents capable of orchestrating tools, integrating with operational processes, and adapting to real-world environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience building or deploying agent-based systems, a strong foundation in modern AI pipelines, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and product teams to develop practical, scalable, workflow-driven solutions. • *When answering the salary screener question for this job, please list your desired salary followed by a type of fruit. (example: 120K-140K, apple)** Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Position duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Algorithm Development: Architect, develop, and implement custom agentic workflows that enable autonomous reasoning, task execution, and decision-making across internal and external systems. • Tool and API Integration: Lead efforts in object detection, recognition, and tracking, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques to achieve superior performance. • Memory and Context Management: Develop and optimize long-term and short-term memory systems, retrieval strategies, and state management for persistent agent behavior. • Model Application and Tuning: Apply, fine-tune, and optimize LLMs, SLMs, and RAGs for task-specific workflows, using frameworks such as LangChain, AWS Bedrock Agents, or equivalent. • Performance Optimization: Improve agent reliability, response evaluation, latency, and reasoning accuracy through iterative testing, reinforcement, or structured feedback loops. • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to integrate computer vision solutions into products and applications. • Testing and Evaluation: Develop and implement testing protocols to evaluate the performance, robustness, and reliability of computer vision models in diverse environments. • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of computer vision models, algorithms, and implementations for knowledge transfer and future development. Nice to Have: • Experience with computer vision • Speech-to-text / text-to-speech • Multimodal experience. Requirements: • Education: Bachelor's/Master's/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Vision, or a related field. • Experience: Minimum of five years of experience designing or deploying AI systems, with hands-on examples of agentic frameworks, LLM-based workflows, or automation pipelines. • Programming Skills: Proficient in programming languages such as Python, and experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g., OpenCV). • LLM Knowledge: Strong understanding of prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), evaluation methods, and deployment best practices. • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex AI Agent challenges and propose innovative solutions. Proficient in Python, and modern workflow libraries (e.g. LangChain, FastAPI, PyTorch, Transformers). • Team Player: Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment. • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and contribute to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. • Communication: Candidate must be fluent in the English language and able to communicate complex concepts with business leader Orbital Engineering, Inc. has provided worldwide professional engineering and consulting services since 1969.
