Senior Accountant, Investment Operations

Backflip is seeking a Senior Accountant, Investment Operations with investment management and loan-securitization experience to help us bring key accounting and fund administration functions in-house. This experienced accountant will play a critical role in designing and implementing institutional-grade accounting and close processes for our investment management entities and public securitization vehicles. This role will lead the insourcing and institutionalization of accounting functions currently performed with third-party support, including bookkeeping, close support, servicing support, investor reporting support, and entity-level reporting including securitization. The Senior Accountant, Investment Operations will report to Backflip’s Head of Accounting and will work closely with internal Finance and Capital Markets teams and with various external partners (eg, fund administrators, auditors, tax preparers) to build repeatable processes and institutional controls while meeting critical deadlines for accurate, comprehensive investment management and securitization reporting. What You’ll Do Lead accounting workflows for investment management entities and related securitizations, including: Day-to-day accounting activities (journal entries, accruals, allocations, etc) Monthly and quarterly close activities Tracking securitization cash flows, reserves, fees, and balances Reconciliations between trustee/servicer reports, Backflip’s loan management system (LoanPro), and the GL Prepare internal tracking and compliance schedules related to asset management and securitization activities, including equity and debt balances, interest expense, issuance costs, and covenant compliance Plan and implement the insourcing of processes currently performed through a third-party fund administrator (entity bookkeeping, reconciliations, close support, reporting, and audit/tax support) Oversee audit, tax, and stakeholder support, including coordinating with auditors, tax preparers, trustees, and administrators Strengthen internal controls and accounting rigor as the platform scales Draft and maintain high-quality accounting and reporting process documentation, including Accounting policies, close checklists, and support schedules Standardizing charts of accounts SOPs, templates, and recurring schedules This role is expected to evolve and grow over time to include responsibilities and opportunities beyond those listed here. We anticipate adding additional investment management and securitization vehicles as the company scales. This role will help to design, build, and operate the accounting and reporting functions essential to Backflip’s asset management and capital markets businesses. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Active CPA preferred [5+] years of accounting experience at a top-tier financial institution or accounting firm At least [2+] years of experience with: Loan/debt accounting Fund accounting, SPVs, investment entities, or alternative asset managers Securitizations and warehouse facilities Cash waterfall concepts and trustee reporting Demonstrated expertise in GAAP for loan portfolios, monthly close mechanics, and financial reporting Familiarity with complex entity structures and capital markets strategies (warehouse lines, ABL, notes sales, securitizations, etc.) Experience owning reconciliations and preparing support schedules with minimal oversight. Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills Attention to detail, strong follow-through, and comfort meeting stringent deadlines Advanced computer skills - demonstrated desire to learn new technologies (we use Slack + Google Workspace + HubSpot + QuickBooks Online + more) Experience with LoanPro (or a similar loan management system) is a plus/required This candidate will champion Backflip’s culture & Core Values: Raise the Bar: We pursue operational excellence with focus, follow-through, and a persistent drive to get 1% better every day. Compensation for this role includes a base salary of $95,000 – $125,000 and total on-target earnings of $105,000 – $140,000 (based on experience and past performance).
