Summer Youth Mentor

The Summer Youth Mentor role is central to supporting youth participants through their summer work experience, ensuring successful job placements, and providing ongoing coaching and mentorship throughout the program. The Summer Youth Mentor will monitor worksite performance, facilitate communication between youth and employers, and ensure compliance with program requirements. In this role, there will be travel throughout the community to visit multiple worksites across the downtown area.

Summer Youth Mentor Responsibilities:

Visit assigned worksites regularly to observe youth performance and provide on-site coaching and support.
Coach youth participants on professional workplace expectations, including dress code, punctuality, communication, and work ethic.
Build and maintain positive relationships with youth participants, families, and worksite supervisors.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of participant timesheets and coordinate with program staff to resolve payroll issues.
Track participant attendance, performance evaluations, and case notes in program databases.
Facilitate youth orientation sessions to prepare participants for workplace success.
Address and resolve on-site conflicts or challenges with professionalism and appropriate intervention.
Conduct regular check-ins with worksite supervisors to assess participant progress and address concerns.
Submit required reports, evaluations, and documentation to program management.
Respond to crisis situations involving participants with appropriate support and follow-up.
Perform other duties as assigned to support program needs.



Summer Youth Mentor Requirements:


High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Previous experience working with youth in educational, coaching, mentoring, or supervisory settings (minimum 3 months preferred).
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in tracking multiple participants and worksites.
Ability to accommodate a Monday through Friday work schedule with extended hours during youth orientation week (including Saturdays and early mornings).
Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds is strongly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Professional demeanor with the ability to represent the program positively to employers and community partners.
Able to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic, youth-centered environment.
Self-starter who can work independently while maintaining collaboration with the program team.
Comfortable using databases and Microsoft Office Suite to maintain records and generate reports.
Reliable transportation is required to travel to multiple worksites throughout the downtown area (20+ mile radius).
Must pass a BCI/FBI background check
