Job Description

The Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC) employs Peer Academic Advisors (PA) to serve as a summer resource to new Spiders. Over email, virtual platforms, and the phone, PAs answer questions about campus life and help new students prepare for fall course registration during the Pre-Registration and Self-Registration phases.

Specific duties of the job include:
• Maintain regular contact with an assigned group of incoming students via e-mail, social media, Zoom, and/or the phone.
• Help new students navigate the New Spiders website, the Spider Portal, and BannerWeb.
• Connect new students to campus resources, departments, faculty, and staff.
• Help new students meet deadlines, make course choices, and understand university procedures.
• Respond quickly to questions throughout the summer from new students.
• Work with faculty and staff summer advisors to help students prepare for fall course registration.

Qualifications for the position include:
• Possess excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
• Possess an outgoing and enthusiastic personality, and demonstrate empathetic concern for others.
• Have reliable internet service and be available to work with new students via e-mail, social media, Zoom and/or the phone throughout the summer.
• Be able to respond quickly to e-mails, phone calls, questions, requests, etc. throughout the summer.
• Must reside and work in the U.S. during employment period.
• Cannot combine this position with another full-time university-sponsored internship or research position (i.e., URSF, Richmond Guarantee, etc.).

This is a part-time position that begins in mid-June and ends in early August. The estimated hours each pay period will fluctuate between 10 – 20 hours.
