Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm, and they are seeking a State & Local Tax (SALT) Associate for their SF Bay Area team. The role involves assisting clients with state and local income tax issues, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and providing support in tax audit disputes.ResponsibilitiesAssist middle market and Fortune 500 clients with evaluating and resolving state and local income tax issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable state tax lawsAssist with SALT compliance quality control reviews and perform research on relevant state tax lawAssist clients with state and local tax audit disputesDraft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issuesInteract and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detailMaintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service lines and engagement/project teamsDevelop and retain technical tax expertiseProactively identify and communicate issues as they ariseMaintain a positive and “team player” attitudeBecome familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies and proceduresLearn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programsUtilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clientsEnjoy friendships, social activities and team outings that encourage a work-life balanceSkillsBachelor's degree in accounting, math, finance, business, economics, or a related field of studyMinimum of one (1) year of experience with a law firm or public accounting firm, or analogous industry or public sector / tax agency experience focused on SALT income tax mattersExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated skills in the areas of legal research and writing, time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solvingStrong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skillsAbility to travel, as neededMaster's Degree in Taxation, or JD / LL.MCPA, bar membership or equivalent credentialPrevious experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issuesExperience in serving mid-market clientsProficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)Company OverviewBaker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm, providing clients with a genuine coast-to-coast and global advantage in major regions of the U.S. It was founded in 1931, and is headquartered in Chicago, IL, US, with a workforce of 10001+ employees.
