Safety Manager - DO-178C compliance
Position: Safety Manager
Location: Remote (USA)
Contract Duration: 6 months (extendable)
There will need to be some training for a new hire. Our DO-178C processes are unique.
ā¢ Safety Leadership: Develop and manage safety plans ensuring compliance with DO-178C DAL A standards.
ā¢ Process Management: Oversee software development processes, code hardening, verification and validation, ensuring adherence to the highest safety and reliability standards.
ā¢ Risk Analysis: Conduct thorough safety assessments, hazard analyses, and risk mitigation.
ā¢ Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for safety plans, processes, and compliance activities.
ā¢ Audits and Reviews: Prepare for and support internal and external compliance audits.
ā¢ Training: Provide guidance and training on DO-178C standards and safety practices.
ā¢ Continuous Improvement: Implement best practices for process improvements in safety and reliability.
ā¢ Stakeholder Collaboration: Communicate safety objectives and requirements effectively with cross-functional teams.
ā¢ Incident Management: Investigate safety incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Critical Skills and Experience
ā¢ Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
ā¢ Experience: Minimum of 7 years in software development, with at least 5 years focused on safety-critical systems and DO-178C compliance.
ā¢ Certification: Relevant certifications (e.g., DO-178C, FAA DER) are highly desirable.
ā¢ Knowledge: Deep understanding of DO-178C standards, particularly for DAL A certification, and familiarity with related standards.
ā¢ Knowledge of requirements
ā¢ Software high-level and low-level
ā¢ Knowledge of verification
ā¢ How to test requirements according to our plan (and thus meeting DO-178C)
ā¢ How to know if a peer review was performed correctly
ā¢ Understands structural coverage analysis (code and architecture)
ā¢ Knowledge of tool qualification
ā¢ A willingness to dig in at the RTOS, BSP, library level
ā¢ Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively.
ā¢ Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to safety and compliance standards.
Preferred Skills
ā¢ Tools: Proficiency with safety, verification, and code analysis tools.
ā¢ Methodologies: Familiarity with Waterfall, Agile, and V-Model software development methodologies.
ā¢ Industry Experience: Background in the aerospace industry and understanding of regulatory requirements.
