About the position The Research Finance Administrator 3 (RFA3) at Stanford's Department of Bioengineering plays a crucial role in managing and supporting the financial aspects of complex research projects. This position involves proposal preparation, post-award activities, and collaboration with faculty and researchers to ensure effective use of research funds. The RFA3 will also mentor staff and lead process improvement initiatives, contributing to the department's mission of advancing biomedical technologies and scientific discovery. Responsibilities • Provide leadership and support for proposal preparation and post-award activities for diverse research projects. • Manage grant submissions and oversee the submission process, resolving any issues that arise. • Develop, prepare, and finalize project budgets, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines. • Serve as a liaison between principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Research, and other departments. • Review and approve expenditures, advising on post-award spending and compliance. • Create reports supporting project status and develop forecasting models. • Manage contract closeout processes and respond to audit inquiries. • Interpret complex university and government policies for project personnel. • Identify and implement process improvements and lead cross-campus projects. • Train and mentor staff, providing technical expertise and guidance. Requirements • Bachelor's degree and five years of job-related experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. • Expert knowledge of governmental regulations (e.g., FAR, A-21, A-110, A-133, CAS). • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills. • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel and web-based tools. • Knowledge of accounting principles and procurement needs. • Expertise in project management, including managing international collaborations and complex contracts. • Ability to review proposals and manage projects with a clear understanding of their scope and goals. Nice-to-haves • Five to seven years of experience with academic research/sponsored project administration. • Experience with Stanford's sponsored projects is a plus. • Certifications such as Certified Accountant or Auditor, MBA, or project management certification.
