Research Assistant

The college is seeking a Research Assistant to support user testing of assistive technology devices and assist in various research initiatives within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Responsibilities Supporting the user testing of assistive technology devices in the laboratory by individuals who are blind or visually impaired Recruitment and logistics for user studies, and be the primary team member to run the user studies The research assistant will also be involved in study design, IRB preparation, preparation of any materials for the study and data analysis The position may require travel to the Washington DC area and/or the Hampton Roads area to do subject testing Skills Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, human-computer interaction, rehabilitation engineering or related fields or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Professional demeanor Good interpersonal skills Attention to detail Understanding of experimental procedures and statistical analysis, including quantitative analysis methods such as analysis of variance and qualitative analysis methods such as qualitative content analysis Ability to be precise, thorough, reliable, and work independently Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, human-computer interaction, rehabilitation engineering or related fields is preferred Benefits Comprehensive health benefits Paid annual and holiday leave Generous tuition benefits Retirement planning and savings options Tax-deferred annuity and cash match programs Employee discounts Well-being resources Abundant opportunities for career development and advancement And more.
