They are seeking a Writer/Editor to describe and promote the Research Institute's mission through compelling storytelling, managing social media engagement, and producing various reports and publications.ResponsibilitiesFoster continuous communication and sharing of information to enhance productivityKeep abreast of and address any workload issuesWork with director on story ideas and approaches, campaigns and strategies to enhance the visibility of ResearchCollaborates with Design team to ensure written and visual content mutually convey compelling messageAssists in hiring, goal-setting, evaluation, and supervision of Editorial InternsContribute ideas, content, strategies for promoting Research Institute news through a variety of social media channelsWork with social media coordinator, other writers, designers, etc. on strategies to enhance social media engagementKeep abreast of social media best practices for most effective use of platformsMonitors social media sources for information related to Research InstituteAnalyzes and responds to trends based on social media trackingStays abreast of significant research developments to generate story ideas and strategies for editorial calendarResearch, write, review and edit content for Cornerstone blog; facilitate the review and approval of content by key stakeholdersAssist in producing, writing, editing and proofreading the Research Annual Report, participating in concept meetings and working with department director on content outlines and communication strategiesSolicit, organize and track stakeholder edits and contributions to the Research Annual ReportCollect data, write, and proofread/edit materials for special reports, brochures, and collateral materialsEdit/proofread various brochures, fliers, etc. produced by the design teamExplore video and multimedia possibilities with investigators to showcase their research, motivations, etc. for featuring on Research Institute web, social mediaScript development, input as neededWork with investigators and research teams to explore possible uses of video and audioWork with directors, designers, other writers, and research teams on video concepts, execution, and promotionMaintain continuous contact with investigators to stay informed of significant research developmentsCommunicate closely with members of Public Relations department to stay updated on research progress, highlights, news, etcWork with Public Relations on research news, events worthy of publicizingReview investigator profiles for external siteTypically includes, but is not limited to, editing or writing letters, brochures, fliers, and other supportive materials; reviewing or creating materials for other departments; supporting special projects (e.g., Research Symposium, Clinical Research Day, CHOP Poster Day, etc.); assisting with materials for grant applications; and designing and conducting surveysReview info sheets on departments, resources and institutional programs produced by other writerPeriodically review and edit the external administrative Web site content for consistency, accuracyReview departmental, core, individual lab, etc. content; in addition to editorial comments, provide feedback on structure, content, missing information, suggestions for possible improvement in keeping with Hospital/Research Institute Web structure, flow and brandSkillsBachelor's Degree RequiredAt least five (5) years of writing and/or editing experience RequiredAdvanced proficiency in social media strategies, visual and scientific/technical topic storytellingAdvanced proficiency with office software (Microsoft) including email & calendar, word processing, presentation, collaboration, and storage (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive)Intermediate proficiency with document management software (Adobe Acrobat)Intermediate knowledge of writing styles including research, scientific (AMA) and/or press (AP) stylesFundamental knowledge of scientific, academic and medical topicsExcellent verbal and written communications skillsStrong presentation skillsStrong organizational skillsStrong time management skillsStrong project management skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to collaborate with stakeholders at all levelsBachelor's Degree in communications or scientific related field PreferredAt least seven (7) years of writing and/or editing experience in a scientific or medical environment PreferredBenefitsSalary ranges are shown for full-time jobs.
