Brown and Caldwell is a full-service environmental engineering and construction services firm seeking a Water Reuse Engineer to enhance their Reuse practice. The role involves planning water reuse systems, navigating regulatory processes, and developing innovative treatment solutions to support environmental sustainability and resilience in water supplies.ResponsibilitiesIndependently perform technical analyses and evaluate sustainable environmental engineering solutionsPrepare, review, and finalize technical reports, calculations, and design documentationDesign environmental protection systems and infrastructure in accordance with regulatory and project requirementsDevelop facility, watershed, or resource management plans with defined scopes and objectivesAnalyze complex data sets and ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance of deliverablesProvide technical support for permitting, regulatory approvals, and coordination with vendors and stakeholdersSupport project execution through collaboration with multidisciplinary teamsFlexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needsWork closely with clients and project delivery teams in the western US to execute water reuse projects, programs, and studiesDevelop into a technical leader on water reuse projectsAssist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, models, and other technical deliverables for a variety of water reuse projectsCoordinate, advise, and conduct testing of equipment, including established and novel treatment technologies related to water reuseCollaborate with BC research and innovation on applicable technologies and projectsRead, summarize, and prepare technical reports regarding water quality and regulatory requirementsEvaluate treatment approaches for water quality parameters, including constituents of emerging concernPrepare and deliver presentations to clients and for internal professional meetingsProvide technical expertise to support business development pursuits and demonstrate a willingness to learn how to lead these types of pursuitsParticipate in professional organizationsMay provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their rolesSkillsA bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or related field is requiredTypically, a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related fieldProficient knowledge of environmental engineering principles, methods, and regulatory frameworksStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesAbility to manage assigned tasks independently and meet project deadlinesClear and effective communication skills for technical and nontechnical audiencesExperience in preparation of plans and permit applications for environmental projectsPrior experience in guidance and development of less experienced colleaguesTypically certified in the SMS Framework, and progressing through the SMS competencies7+ years of progressively responsible work experience in the wastewater, drinking water, and/or reuse industry, including familiarity with the following: Water reuse system planning, Water reuse regulations and permitting, Feasibility and conceptual studies of water reuse systems, Facility master planning, modeling, advanced data analysis, Advanced water treatment designExperience with at least one of the following: Full-scale or pilot plants, including some advanced treatment unit processes such as MBR, MF, RO, UV, ozone, GAC, BAC, or IX; Permitting of water reuse facilities and systems; Development of water reuse planning documentsExperience working and communicating directly with clientsA master's degree in environmental engineering or related fieldA Professional Engineer licenseBenefitsMedicalDentalVisionShort and long-term disabilityLife insuranceAn employee assistance programPaid time off and parental leavePaid holidays401(k) retirement savings plan with employer matchPerformance-based bonus eligibilityEmployee referral bonusesTuition reimbursementPet insuranceLong-term care insuranceCompany OverviewBrown and Caldwell is the largest engineering consulting firm solely focused on the U.S. environmental sector.
