About the CENTROID Data Science Team
The CENTROID Data Science team develops innovative solutions to make data-driven decisions in Network transformation at Walmart. Our work includes solving complex problems such as Ambient and Perishable inbound network design, middle-mile network flow optimization, last-mile transportation and returns design, inventory placement and targets, and transportation and monetization strategies. We employ a range of techniques from operations research to classical machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, causal inference, and statistics. Our work is revolutionary and has been published in top-tier conferences and journals. In fact, our team won the prestigious INFORMS Franz Edelman award in 2023.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimize data-driven models to solve complex delivery chain challenges
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement network transformation strategies
Analyze and interpret large datasets to inform business decisions
Develop and maintain technical documentation of models and solutions
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and operations research
Essential Qualifications
Ph.D./M.S. in a quantitative field such as Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics
Up to 10 years of relevant work experience in data science, operations research, or a related field
Strong background in math programming techniques, stochastic programming, or related applied disciplines
Experience with optimization toolkits/libraries such as CPlex, Gurobi, XPressMP, or open-source solvers
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and familiarity with machine learning libraries like Scikit, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras
Strong data querying skills using SQL
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Established experience as a full-stack data scientist who develops, optimizes, and scales models for production environments
Experience with optimization modeling techniques (Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, Non-Linear Programming) and advanced statistical modeling techniques (e.g., SVM, Random Forest, Bayesian inference, Graph models, NLP, Computer Vision, Neural Networks, etc.)
