The System Administrator role involves providing operational support, maintenance, and modernization of IT systems, ensuring secure and compliant infrastructure operations that support mission-critical services for Veterans.ResponsibilitiesManage, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux servers across development, test, staging, and production environmentsPerform system provisioning, configuration, patching, and optimization to ensure high availability and performanceSupport Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and identity/access management in VA environmentsMaintain virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud‑hosted systems within VA Enterprise CloudEnsure systems comply with VA cybersecurity policies, FISMA, NIST 800‑53, Zero Trust, and VAAR/FAR requirementsSupport ISSOs with vulnerability remediation, POA&M updates, and continuous monitoring activitiesImplement secure configuration baselines (STIGs, CIS benchmarks) and maintain audit readinessManage patching cycles, antivirus/EDR tools, and security logging in accordance with VA OIT directivesSupport hybrid infrastructure spanning on‑premise data centers and VA‑approved cloud environments (AWS, Azure)Assist with cloud migrations, modernization efforts, and containerized workloads where applicableManage storage, backups, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations (COOP) processesDiagnose and resolve system, network, and application issues across VA environmentsProvide Tier 2/3 support for incidents, service requests, and escalationsCollaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, network teams, and VA stakeholders to resolve cross‑functional issuesMaintain system documentation, SOPs, configuration records, and architecture diagramsSupport change management processes (CAB, RFCs) in alignment with VA governanceEnsure all systems and configurations adhere to VA TRM‑approved technologies and standardsWork closely with VA PMs, CORs, product owners, and technical teams to support operational needsParticipate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to iterative delivery cyclesProvide recommendations for system improvements, modernization, and operational efficiencySkillsU.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required)Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)5+ years of system administration experience in enterprise or federal environmentsExperience supporting VA, DoD, HHS, or other federal agenciesStrong experience with Windows/Linux administration, virtualization, and identity managementKnowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, STIGs, and secure configuration practicesExperience with monitoring, logging, and incident response toolsExperience with VA systems (VistA, Cerner/Oracle Health, VES, IAM, TRM‑approved tools)Certifications such as Security+, Network+, Microsoft, Red Hat, AWS/Azure Administrator, or ITILExperience with T4NG/T4NG2, VHA modernization, or VA enrollment sustainment and transformation programsExperience with automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible) and cloud operationsBenefitsMedical, Dental, and VisionHealth Saving Account (when enrolled in eligible plan) with Company contributionCompany paid Life, Accidental Death, Short-term & Long-term DisabilityVoluntary Accident, Hospital Indemnity, & Critical Care InsuranceVoluntary Medical & Dependent Care Flexible Spending AccountsAccrued Paid Time Off & Company Paid Holidays401(k) Retirement Plan with Company matchCompany OverviewSprez·za·tu·ra (sprāt-tsä-ˈtü-rä) n.
