They are seeking a highly skilled Storage Operations Engineer to build, maintain, and operate Vultr Cloud Storage environments, particularly focusing on software-defined scale-out storage systems like Ceph.ResponsibilitiesContinually enhance the Ceph-based Cloud Storage System in terms of stability, scalability, functionality, performance and costActively participate in the design and architecture decisions for Ceph-based Cloud StorageDevelop automation framework and improvements for our Ceph-based Cloud Storage infrastructureOptimize existing metrics collection and alerting systemsContribute to our internal documentation and knowledge baseMonitor Cloud Storage infrastructure to ensure high availability and reliability of our servicesPartner with Network and Operations teams for capacity expansion and maintenance windowsEvaluate new technologies, advance storage features and new operational methodology to drive efficiency and effectivenessResearch and Develop cutting edge features for Ceph-based Cloud StorageParticipate in meetings as requiredJob shadowing of new hires or other team members as requiredEffectively communicate cross-functionallyWork independently as well as collaborate with team members and project stakeholdersSkillsProblem solving skills using foundational data structures and distributed systems conceptsFluent in Linux (CentOS/RHEL/Debian/Ubuntu)3+ years and extensive experience configuring, deploying, and managing distributed systemsHands on experience with cloud hosting, object storage, and block storage conceptsExperience with performance tuning in virtualized environmentsKnowledge of server hardware including IPMI and storage drives (SATA, NVMe)Strong automating and scripting experience (Python/Bash/PHP/etc)Hands on experience with automation tools (Puppet/Ansible/Chef/Salt/etc)Effective Communication skillsExcellent time management skillsThe ability to manage work independentlyStrong collaboration skillsExperience with Ceph or other software defined storage a plusExperience with logging, metrics, and time series: Prometheus, collectd, ELK, Grafana, Graylog, Graphite, etc. a plusBenefits100% company-paid insurance premiums for employee medical, dental and vision plans.401(k) plan that matches 100% up to 4%, with immediate vestingProfessional Development Reimbursement of $2,500 each year11 Holidays + Paid Time Off Accrual + Rollover PlanCommitment matters to Vultr!
