[Remote] Staff Software Engineer, Identity Platform

The Staff Software Engineer will drive the technical vision for the Identity Platform, focusing on the design and maintenance of authentication and authorization systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality identity solutions.ResponsibilitiesLead the design, development, and maintenance of highly scalable, performant, and reliable authentication and authorization systems, including login flows, session management, token issuance, and access controlPropose, design, develop and implement cloud-based identity solutions that ensure the agility, flexibility, and scalability of our auth infrastructure including SSO, MFA, and federated identity integrationsOwn and evolve Maven's auth platform, setting standards for how authentication and authorization are implemented consistently across services and client applicationsDrive technical design discussions and provide guidance to team members on best practices, coding standards, and architecture principles for security-sensitive systemsCollaborate with and lead cross-functional teams β including product, security, and compliance β to drive the development of new auth features and ensure they meet the needs of our customers and adhere to Maven's quality standardsMentor and guide mid-level engineers, helping to develop their technical skills and cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvementIdentify and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and trends in identity and access management that can drive innovation and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our engineering processesSkillsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experienceMinimum of 8 years of experience in backend development, with a proven track record of building highly scalable, performant, and reliable systems β including at least 3 years focused on authentication, authorization, or identity managementDeep expertise in modern auth protocols and standards: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, JWT, and MFA/passwordless flowsExperience designing and implementing complex distributed systems, including microservices architecture, containerization, and orchestrationStrong expertise in developing cloud-based solutions, with hands-on experience in one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, etc.), including infrastructure as code and serverless architecturesExperience building distributed systems with microservices and relational and NoSQL databases, with a strong understanding of secure data handling for PII and credentialsExperience leading technical design discussions and providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and architecture principlesStrong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced environmentExcellent collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineersFamiliarity with security and compliance requirements relevant to identity systems (SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar) is a plusBenefitsEquityBenefitsMaven for Mavens: access to the full platform and specialists, including care for mental health, reproductive health, family planning and pediatrics.Whole-self care through wellness partnershipsHybrid work, in office meals, and work together days16 weeks 100% paid parental leave and new parent stipend (for Mavens who've been with us for 1 year+)Annual professional development stipend and access to a personal career coach through Maven for Mavens401K matching for US-based employees, with immediate vestingCompany OverviewMaven is a digital health platform that works with health plans and employers to offer virtual services for womenβs and family health.
