[Remote] Staff Software Engineer

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of scalable systems that support prescription decision-making and cost transparency, while driving technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers.ResponsibilitiesLead the design and development of full stack solutions supporting prescription decision-making and cost transparencyArchitect and deliver complex greenfield projects used directly by providers and clinical staffPartner with engineering and product leadership on planning, prioritization, and executionMaintain and evolve backend systems and tools used by internal clinical and operational teamsIntegrate with electronic health records (EHRs) and external partner APIsContribute to platform and infrastructure efforts in partnership with Platform Engineering (AWS, Terraform, Docker)Ensure system interoperability, scalability, and long-term maintainability across services and applicationsTroubleshoot and resolve production issues, including participating in on-call rotationsMentor engineers and elevate technical standards across teamsOwn and drive company-wide technical initiatives that span multiple teams and systemsDevelop deep expertise in the healthcare and prescription coverage domain, and use that knowledge to inform architectural decisions by anticipating future needsMaintain and extend our existing system using Agile practices including TDD, pair programming, and radically collaborative developmentIdentify cross-cutting problems and proactively sponsor solutions (shared services, tooling, architecture)Initiate and lead collaborative efforts across team and functional boundaries, particularly with Product, to solve shared problems and deliver on company-wide goalInfluence technical direction through strong judgment, not just executionServe as a go-to resource for problem solving and technical context across the teamFacilitate cross-team collaboration and unblock complex, ambiguous challengesEstablish, evolve, and uphold engineering standards, documentation, and team norms, informed by experience and team feedbackEnsure internal tools and developer workflows stay aligned with modern best practices, such as agentic AI workflowsClose collaboration with other lead engineers and product management on planning and execution in a remote-first environmentSkills8+ years of software development experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)Strong experience building and scaling full stack applications in production environmentsExperience designing distributed systems and integrating with external APIs (EHR experience a plus)Proficiency in one or more backend languages/frameworks (Kotlin/Spring, Ruby on Rails, or similar)Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React or similar)Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerization (Docker), and infrastructure as code (Terraform)Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, and service-oriented architectureSolid working knowledge of SQL and data modelingIncreasing familiarity with AI models and toolsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to operate independently while collaborating effectively across teamsClear and concise communication—especially in a distributed, async-friendly environmentA bias toward ownership, action, and continuous improvementComfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting prioritiesA desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge & Application: Applies deep technical expertise to design scalable systems and solve complex problems across domainsComplexity & Problem Solving: Leads solutions to ambiguous, high-impact challenges requiring cross-system thinkingCollaboration & Influence: Drives alignment and execution across teams through strong technical leadership and communicationBenefitsCompetitive compensationRemote-firstWork from anywhere in US.
