The Sr. Forensic Consultant will lead forensic collections and provide expert guidance throughout the matter lifecycle while mentoring a team of forensic analysts.ResponsibilitiesPersonally execute forensic collections across the full complexity spectrum—from routine endpoint and mobile preservations to complex multi-source, multi-jurisdiction, and cloud-based collectionsLead onsite, remote, and in-lab engagements using MRD’s full toolkit including Axiom, Cellebrite, EnCase, FEC, FTK, ModeOne, Oxygen, Microsoft Purview, and Google VaultServe as the technical owner for non-routine matters where senior judgment, methodology selection, and on-the-fly problem-solving are requiredAct as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for clients and custodians throughout the matter lifecycleSkillfully disarm anxious or skeptical custodians, set expectations clearly, and explain complex forensic and eDiscovery concepts in plain, accessible language to legal, business, and non-technical audiencesConduct custodian interviews, manage scoping discussions and lead scoping calls with clients, and translate client requirements into defensible technical execution plansMentor, develop, and provide day-to-day technical guidance to a pod of 3-5 Forensic Analysts and SpecialistsConduct peer review of collection plans, client communications and reports, lead skill-building sessions, and coach team members through complex mattersScope new matters, develop written collection plans, prepare budget estimates, and manage engagement economicsCoordinate pod resourcing, monitor matter health, and ensure timely, on-budget deliveryMaintain meticulous chain of custody documentation and oversee evidence handling across the podPrepare and deliver written and oral expert testimony, including declarations, affidavits, and expert reportsMaintain deep, current expertise across litigation support, eDiscovery, and digital forensics—including evolving case law, regulatory expectations, and emerging data sourcesContribute to the continuous improvement of MRD’s collection methodologies, SOPs, and toolkitSupport business development through proposal contributions, scoping calls, RFP responses, and client referralsSkills10+ years of progressive digital forensics experience, with at least 8 years working specifically on eDiscovery-related forensic activities on behalf of law firm, corporate, government, or law enforcement clientsDemonstrated history of leading client-facing engagements as the primary point of contact, including scoping, budget management, and end-to-end executionDocumented track record of 100+ forensic collections and 5+ co-led or fully-led complex forensic examinationsBachelor's Degree required. Education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, or a related field preferredMust hold at least one vendor-neutral digital forensics certificationIndependent expert witness testimony (written or oral) experience required, including formal experience and expertise preparing written testimony such as declarations, affidavits, and expert reportsExceptional client-facing communication skills with a demonstrated ability to disarm anxious or skeptical clients and custodians, set expectations clearly, and explain complex technical concepts in plain, accessible languageDeep industry expertise across litigation support, eDiscovery, and digital forensics workflows, including a current working knowledge of evolving case law, regulatory expectations, and emerging data sourcesExcellent written and oral communication skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with all types of clients—from in-house counsel and outside counsel to non-technical custodiansDemonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and provide day-to-day technical guidance to a pod of 3-5 junior forensic staff (Analysts and Specialists), without formal people-management responsibilityExperience conducting peer review of collection plans, examination reports, and other client deliverables to ensure consistent quality and methodology adherenceProficiency with advanced forensic techniques and commonly used forensics toolsets, including Axiom, Cellebrite, EnCase, FEC, FTK, ModeOne, Oxygen, and X-Ways, among othersDeep working experience with popular email and collaboration platforms including Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Purview, Google Workspace/Google Vault, Domino, and GroupWiseComplete understanding of physical and virtual (cloud) computing and networking concepts, including AWS, Azure, and GCP forensic data sourcesExtensive experience analyzing Windows and Mac OS operating systems, as well as mobile platforms including Apple iOS and Android OSThorough and detailed understanding of chain of custody procedures and adherence to best practices in evidence handling and tracking across the full matter lifecycleKnowledgeable and experienced across all phases of legal discovery—preserve-in-place, identification, collection, processing, and data servicesDemonstrated experience with project scoping, budget management, and engagement economics on complex forensic and eDiscovery mattersEvidence of business development contribution, including support of proposals, RFP responses, scoping calls, and client referralsCandidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter in a fast-paced environment, working independently and as part of a team.
