[Remote] Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant - Remote

They are seeking a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to join their Enterprise Financial Reporting department, where the role involves preparing and reviewing financial statements, analyzing results, and performing technical accounting research.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review the Company's GAAP and Statutory Financial Statements and External ReportsStart-to-finish ownership of report content and presentationPrepare and review tie-out support gathered from multiple departmentsCoordinate independent auditor's review of the financial statements and tie-out supportBenchmark peers to recommend and apply best practicesDevelop technical expertise to understand and apply relevant GAAP and Statutory reporting requirementsResearch and facilitate implementation of new GAAP and Statutory reporting requirementsCoordinate preparation and review of quarterly internal results analysisExecute internal controls and maintain related documentation for external reportingPrepare accounting memos and policiesPerform technical accounting research related to new or complex transactions or in support of other departmentsStay current with developments in the accounting and finance world, sharing knowledge with othersLeads special projects as neededSkillsA BA/BS in Accounting, or FinanceMinimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in public accounting or with exposure to public company reportingCPA or CPA-eligible, preferredExperience with the preparation of financial statement and footnote disclosuresTechnical accounting research skills and the desire to use them – analyzing, documenting, and supporting conclusionsExposure to internal controls over financial reporting and related documentationHigh expectations for themselves, with an irresistible urge to exceed themCreativity, problem solving, and decision-making skillsGood time management, capable of planning and prioritizing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines under pressureA positive attitude and sense of humor!High school diploma requiredExperience in the financial services or insurance industry is preferred but not requiredBenefitsFlexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangementsPlan for your future with our 401(k) plan and take advantage of immediate vesting and company matching up to 6%Paid time away including vacation and sick time, flex days and ten paid holidaysGive back to your community and double your impact through our company matchingCompany OverviewSymetra is a financial service company that provides retirement, employee benefits, group life, and disability insurance.
