The role involves designing, developing, and implementing firmware for embedded systems, specifically for advanced networked audiovisual products, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust performance and compliance with regulatory standards.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded platformsIntegrate and optimize audio/video codecs, media containers, and streaming protocols (e.g. RTP/RTSP, AVB, AES67)Implement low-level drivers and middleware for high-throughput AV pipelinesCollaborate with audio engineers to integrate and tune signal processing on platformsDebug and profile system performance using industry-standard embedded tools and Linux utilitiesMaintain source control best practices using Git in a collaborative, multi-branch environmentEnsure designs meet regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. FCC, CE, RoHS) for embedded electronicsWork on a hands-on basis, executing as a liaison in the electronics design elements of the projectEnvision and develop ongoing management of product feature roadmap and platform evolution, enhancing firmware performance and efficiencySupport the ongoing production of comprehensive documentation for developed firmware, including technical specification and implementation detailsStay updated with the latest industry trends and embedded firmware technologies to maintain relevance in the fieldSkillsA minimum of seven years or more of practical work experience in the same or related role required, with the technical expertise needed to be considered a seasoned contributor, able to work independently in position responsibilitiesProficient in C/C++ for embedded LinuxExperience with Yocto Project build systems on NXP processorsStrong understanding of audio/video codecs, streaming protocols, and real-time data handlingFamiliarity with kernel configuration, device tree modification, and driver integrationDemonstrated use of Git for version control, including branching, merging, and code review workflowsComfortable creating technical documentation of complex systems using CAD, Omnigraffle, Visio or similarKnowledge of compliance considerations for embedded hardware/software systemsAble to work closely with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications and ensure seamless integration of software with hardwareAbility to work independently with a strong sense of self-motivation and deep technical expertiseDegree: BS in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related fieldHands-on experience with the i.MX 8M Plus and Cadence Tensilica HiFi4 DSPExperience in performance tuning for low-latency AV systemsElectronics design experienceExposure to Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and professional AV transport standardsHands-on networking expertise, with CCNA (or equivalent) professional-level networking certifications preferred.
