The Software Engineer II will build reliable code, contribute to team goals, and participate in design discussions while collaborating with cross-functional partners.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain modern web applications (front-end and back-end), writing reliable and maintainable code with increasing independenceTake ownership of medium-scope features and deliver them with minimal guidance, breaking down work and managing complexityCollaborate with cross-functional partners, including Site Reliability Engineering, User Experience, and Product, communicating assumptions clearly and aligning on requirementsParticipate in code reviews, providing thoughtful feedback and thinking critically about design decisionsContribute to design discussions and begin influencing technical decisions within the teamUnderstand product requirements and suggest improvements with end users in mindSupport newer teammates by offering help and sharing knowledge, while actively seeking feedback to improve their own skillsSkillsProficiency in front-end and/or back-end modern web developmentAbility to work independently on medium-complexity features and break down work without step-by-step guidanceStrong communication skills, with the ability to communicate assumptions and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholdersFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and testing practicesDemonstrated ability to refactor and improve code quality independentlyCuriosity, adaptability, and a growth mindsetExperience with our tech stack: Go, Java, TypeScript, Angular, AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools like CircleCIBackground in education technology or mission-driven industriesFamiliarity with accessible design principles and practicesBenefitsAn annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation packageA full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offeredCompany OverviewWe are a leading global education company that partners with millions of educators, learners and professionals around the world.
