They are seeking a Software Engineer to join their Astro Core Services team, focusing on developing core systems that ensure the platform is reliable, scalable, and maintainable.ResponsibilitiesContribute to the development of Astro Platform's architecture and components, with guidance from senior engineersCollaborate with cross-functional teams to understand user requirements, implement and iterate on features used by the engineering org as a wholeWork with front end developers, product management and customers to deliver customer facing features such as public facing APIs and UI experiencesLearn and apply best practices for building reliable, scalable platform softwareContribute to the overall platform usability, reliability, and scalabilitySkillsAn interest in building performant, scalable, and reliable backend systemsStrong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative mindsetA Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)Exposure to at least one backend programming language (Go, Python, Java, etc.) through coursework, internships, or personal projectsFamiliarity with SQL databasesFoundational understanding of distributed systems conceptsFamiliarity with software development best practices, such as code reviews, testing, version control, and debuggingExperience leveraging AI coding assistants and LLMs (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Gemini) to accelerate development — from prototyping and automated testing to code refactoring and documentationInternship or co-op experience in a software engineering roleContributions to open source projectsExperience with Go specificallyExperience with Apache Airflow or related workflow orchestratorsBenefitsEquity componentComprehensive benefits packageCompany OverviewAstronomer is a data orchestration platform built on Apache Airflow, enabling teams to build, run, and monitor data pipelines at scale.
