[Remote] Senior Underwriting Consultant - Supplemental Health

The Senior Underwriting Consultant for Supplemental Health insurance will support the launch of new Supplemental Health products, act as a subject matter expert, and collaborate with various teams to ensure profitability and growth.ResponsibilitiesSupport the launch of our new Supplemental Health Products including Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital IndemnityAct as the subject matter expert (SME) for Supplemental Health products including creating and delivering training for the underwriting teamPartner with Regional Supplemental Health Directors throughout the launch of new product offeringsAnalyze and price employer groups for Supplemental Health products, and ideally Life and Disability offerings to meet divisional growth and profitability goalsTriage new prospects to assess risk, plan design, data completeness, and pricing approach including any needed experience ratingAdvise Distribution on plan designs & pricing recommendation including options for benefit levels, comparison to current or competition, rating assumptions and risk analysisEvaluate enrollment conditions and strategies to ensure successful implementation and satisfaction of any required product participationNegotiate with sales reps on new business to balance competitiveness with risk and support progress toward divisional sales goalsCollaborate with Account Managers on renewals by applying the company’s renewal strategy considering plan designs, utilization, and pricing to maximize retention and ensure profitable performanceCoordinate cross-functionally with Distribution, Operations, Claims, Product, and Actuarial to ensure alignment and promote positive customer experienceSupport special projects for leadership including process improvements, pricing updates, and new product features / offeringsMentor teammates including reviewing work, sharing best practices, and helping to upskill the teamSkills5+ years Supplemental Health Underwriting experience including Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity risk evaluation and pricingBachelor's degree or equivalent experienceExperience with rating models, trend & utilization assumptions, case characteristics, industry, demographics, and plan design impactsStrong Proficiency with Excel with ability to use complex spreadsheets, rate tables and other underwriting toolsStrong documentation, justification, and audit trail disciplineStrategic mindset with ability to balance view of growth vs. riskStrong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to negotiate successfully with DistributionStakeholder management thought balancing needs from diverse partners including Distribution, Operations, Actuarial, Product and ClaimsTraining & mentoring capabilities including developing materials, setting clear explanations, and coachingStrongly preferred 5+ year Life and Disability Underwriting experience including risk evaluation and pricing as well as proficiency with experience rating for these productsBenefitsAnnual incentive programMedical & prescription, dental, vision insuranceHealth Savings Account & Flexible Spending AccountsPaid Time Off10 weeks 100% paid parental leave (after completing 12 months of employment)401(k) Plan with company matchPension PlanCompany paid life & disability insuranceWellness Program & Company paid employee assistance programClinic access subject to location(Indianapolis, Charlotte, Cincinnati)Company OverviewOneAmerica Financial® is a national financial services organization helping people build greater certainty for better moments, every day.
