[Remote] Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain the technology platform, influencing architecture and engineering culture while contributing to a community-oriented primary care model.ResponsibilitiesDesign and build scalable platform services, web and mobile applications, and AI-powered workflows, contributing to decisions around event-driven patterns, service boundaries, performance, and long-term maintainabilityLeverage AI-accelerated developer tooling, including code generation, automated testing, and pipeline automation to improve delivery speed and code qualityParticipate in greenfield architectural decisions, including technology selection, service design, and infrastructure strategy, helping establish the foundation the team will build onApply strong security practices across application, network, and infrastructure layers, including secure coding, OWASP considerations, and integration of DAST, SCA, and SAST toolingPartner with product to refine MVP scope, instrument features where appropriate, and measure usage and return on investmentContribute to and improve SDLC processes, including testing practices, pull request quality, CI/CD pipelines, performance benchmarks, and developer experienceParticipate in the recruiting process for engineers, including helping evaluate candidates for technical depth and modern engineering practicesFoster a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvementSkillsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar6+ years of experience designing and building scalable, performant systems across web, mobile, or backend servicesExperience using AI-enhanced development tools in day-to-day engineering workflows, including automated testing and CI/CD optimizationStrong proficiency in cloud architecture, including application infrastructure, networking, observability, and deployment strategiesSolid understanding of architectural patterns such as event-driven systems, microservices, distributed systems, and performance optimizationWorking knowledge of application, network, and infrastructure security, including OWASP, DAST, SCA, SAST, and secure coding practicesAbility to collaborate effectively across engineering and product teamsClear communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholdersExperience working in regulated healthcare environments, including familiarity with HIPAA compliance, PHI handling, and the technical constraints of EHR integrations or health plan data exchangeExperience working in startup or high-growth environments with a high degree of ownership, ambiguity, and end-to-end delivery responsibilityExperience designing or integrating AI or ML-powered product features such as prediction models, workflow automation, or retrieval-augmented systemsTrack record of identifying and driving system-level improvements aligned to business objectivesBenefitsEquity compensation packageComprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision401kFlexible PTO policy - take the time you need to recharge$1,000 home office stipendWe provide the equipment needed for this role.Opportunity for rapid career progression with plenty of room for personal growth.Company OverviewZócalo Health specializes in culturally-sensitive primary care and care management for the Latino community.
