The Senior Sales Manager is responsible for managing a diverse sales team, executing sales strategies, and contributing to long-term planning while overseeing performance and budget accountability.ResponsibilitiesProvide direction, support, and development for a team of sales professionals, including 2+ salaried direct reportsLead the execution of sales strategies across departments or regions, ensuring alignment with evolving CPG market dynamicsOffer strategic guidance on key areas such as policy, pricing, customer engagement, trade management, and channel strategy—leveraging expertise to influence decision-making and support the achievement of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP)Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain) to meet commercial goals and deliver on customer expectations for sales performance, service, and executionOversee team performance, provide coaching and development, and make critical talent decisions, including hiring, development, and termination, as necessaryDrive business outcomes through both individual contributors and subordinate leaders (e.g., managers or supervisors), where applicableDrive strategic planning and execution for assigned accounts to achieve sales, profit, and market share growth objectivesManage direct relationships with a wide range of customer stakeholders, including merchants, replenishment teams, and plannersDevelop and execute customer-specific Annual Operating Plans (AOP), including sales forecasts, promotional calendars, and trade spend strategies in partnership with the customer teamServe as a strategic advisor to internal teams by providing insights and guidance on account plans and growth opportunitiesLead cross-functional collaboration with Demand Planning, Marketing, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless execution that meets both internal goals and customer expectationsCoach and mentor managers and team members to build capability and improve performanceLeverage sales, POS, and category data (e.g., Nielsen) to uncover competitive advantages and proactively manage business risksDevelop and execute account-specific promotional plans that align with both brand objectives and retailer strategiesUtilize data-driven insights to enhance merchandising effectiveness, in-store display execution, and seasonal program performanceAssess the return on investment (ROI) of promotional activities and recommend optimizations based on performance results and competitive landscape analysisWork with Sales and Finance teams to drive trade effectiveness and efficiencies where possibleOversee account-level P&L management, ensuring trade spend drives profitable volume growthDevelop and recommend pricing strategies and programs that align with both customer objectives and internal financial targetsSkillsProven experience as a people leader, with a strong track record of coaching, developing, and elevating direct team members.
