They are seeking a Senior Microgrid Development Engineer to support project development in Commercial & Industrial energy services, providing engineering support and sales assistance while developing innovative energy solutions for clients.ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed energy cost savings, tariff optimization, and resiliency valuation models for distributed energy resource (DER) solutions, including solar, BESS, and CHP systemsLead and coordinate the engineering design process across all project phases, from feasibility and conceptual design through permitting and construction documentation, including due diligence, design optimization, and review of shop drawings from the Engineer of Record and service providersDesign end-to-end microgrid architectures and produce comprehensive Scopes of Work (SOWs), incorporating protection schemes, controls, and utility interconnection requirementsUtilize industry-standard modeling platforms (e.g., HOMER, Xendee) to perform techno-economic optimization of microgrid systems and DER portfoliosEngineer and implement advanced strategies for peak shaving, load shifting, demand response, and supply/demand orchestration to optimize operational performance and reduce demand chargesEvaluate and optimize DER asset portfolios based on site-specific constraints, including load profiles, space limitations, interconnection capacity, and financial return thresholdsConduct site visits and participate in customer meetings to support project development and ensure alignment with technical and operational requirementsCollaborate directly with customers to define resiliency objectives, including critical load identification, outage scenarios, and backup duration requirementsPlan and execute engineering activities for RFPs, including technical package preparation, bid evaluation, and support for contract negotiationsAnalyze energy market trends, regulatory frameworks, and incentive structures (e.g., IRA tax credits, state programs) to inform project economics and investment strategyDeliver technical presentations and client-facing briefings on grid-edge technologies, clearly articulating system design, economics, and operational value. Ensure completeness and accuracy of technical documentation for external stakeholdersSupport commercial teams by translating technical solutions into clear value propositions aligned with energy security, cost reduction, and ESG objectivesReview and validate technical proposals and engineering designs, ensuring accuracy in electrical configurations, control systems, and integration with existing infrastructureDevelop and deliver training programs on microgrid fundamentals, DER integration, and utility interconnection processes for internal and external stakeholdersCoordinate cross-functional engineering support for high-priority project pursuits, including feasibility studies, bid development, and client deliverablesMentor junior engineers in power systems analysis, energy modeling, and DER optimization methodologiesSkillsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on power systems or energy systems5–7 years of experience in distributed energy resources (DER), microgrids, and energy solutions development5–7 years of working knowledge of power systems, including electrical distribution, DER integration (solar, BESS, CHP), and commercial & industrial energy infrastructureProfessional Engineering license (P.E./P.Eng.) preferred, with experience in power system design, interconnection, or grid-edge technologiesProject Development experience: $1M – $20M+ project sizeExperience in technical writing and preparation of proposalsProfessional certifications: CEM, LEED-APExperience with Microsoft Visio to generate detailed schematicsExperience with Microsoft Project to create and manage complex projectsExperience with Microsoft PowerPoint to create customer / internal presentationsFamiliarity with building control systemsPreferably one or more key areas of specialization such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), Solar PV, electrification (boilers, heat pumps, VRF, etc.), geothermalAbility to develop and foster strong customer relationshipsKnowledge of Honeywell and competitor platforms, products, and technologiesStrong verbal and written communications skillsFamiliarity with industry regulatory requirements and future mandatesFamiliarity with energy and carbon reduction project grants and incentive programsAbility to achieve results through influence in a matrixed-team environmentBenefitsEmployer-subsidized Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life InsuranceShort-Term and Long-Term Disability401(k) matchFlexible Spending AccountsHealth Savings AccountsEAPEducational AssistanceParental LeavePaid Time Off (for vacation, personal business, sick time, and parental leave)12 Paid HolidaysINCENTIVE eligibleCompany OverviewHoneywell is a technology and manufacturing company that produces products for the automation, aviation, and energy transition industries.
