[Remote] Senior Engineering Manager - Renewable Energy

Participate in high-stakes customer meetings, presenting technical visions credibly and tailoring complex concepts to C-suite stakeholdersProposal Oversight: Oversee and approve the preparation of technical proposals, including system layouts, energy production estimates, equipment specs, risk assessments, and project schedulesIncentive Strategy: Guide the team in leveraging complex incentive programs (ITC, IRA adders, SGIP, USDA REAP, net metering) to maximize project economics and create competitive advantagesEngineering Excellence: Champion top-tier technical development of solar PV, BESS, microgrid, and EV charging projects from early feasibility through construction handoffSystem Optimization: Oversee advanced energy modeling, battery dispatch optimization, utility cost/rate analysis, and microgrid resiliency designsVendor & Utility Management: Direct utility interconnection strategies (NEM, SGIP, Rule 21, etc.). Act as the escalation point for complex technical hurdles with utilities, AHJs, outside engineers, and vendorsFinancial & Budgetary Ownership: Review and approve financial models, project pricing, construction budgets, and project schedules in tandem with Pre-Construction teamsExecution Support: Ensure seamless handoff to Project Management, providing high-level technical guidance during material procurement and construction phasesPerformance Accountability: Oversee the technical components of commissioning, project closeout, and post-construction savings evaluationsProcess Innovation: Continuously evaluate and improve internal engineering processes, design tools, and best practices to scale the remote engineering departmentSkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related disciplineMinimum of 8 years of relevant experience in renewable energy project development, engineering design, or a related fieldDemonstrated track record of successfully leading the development of utility-scale or complex commercial/industrial solar PV and/or battery energy storage (BESS) projectsAbility to review confidential US security informationStrong emotional intelligence: Proven ability to lead with empathy, resolve conflicts, mentor remote staff, and build strong relationships with diverse customer profilesEntrepreneurial Mindset: Comfortable with ambiguity; a proactive self-starter who thrives with minimal oversight, enjoys building processes from scratch, and treats project budgets/timelines with true ownershipTechnical Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) license, NABCEP PV Installation/Technical Sales certification, or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is strongly preferredAdvanced Technical Domain: Strong experience with complex microgrid design, islanding configurations, grid services, and dispatch optimization modelingModeling Software Proficiency: Deep familiarity with or ability to guide teams using PVSyst, Helioscope, Aurora, Energy Toolbase, Xendee, and/or HOMER ProFinancial & Analytical Acumen: Advanced capability to analyze utility rate structures and validate financial metrics (NPV, IRR, simple payback)Remote Mastery: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored for an asynchronous, 100% remote workplaceTravel: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time for site visits, team alignment meetings, and high-priority customer presentationsBenefitsHealth insuranceRetirement plansPaid time offPerformance incentivesBonusesCommissionsEquityCompany OverviewAmeresco, Inc.
