[Remote] Senior Designer/Drafter- Substations
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. WSB is a design and consulting firm specializing in engineering, community planning, environmental, and construction services. They are seeking a Senior Designer/Drafter- Substations who will produce and review CAD drawings, coordinate design standards, and support all phases of substation projects from conceptual layouts to construction-ready deliverables.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Develop detailed schematics for AC/DC systems, control circuits, and relay logic
ā¢ Draft single-line, three-line, and interconnection diagrams
ā¢ Create wiring diagrams for control panels, relay racks, and equipment terminations
ā¢ Integrate SCADA, RTU, and communication system layouts
ā¢ Coordinate with engineers to ensure accurate relay settings and device configurations
ā¢ Produce substation layout drawings including plan views, elevation views, and section details
ā¢ Draft conduit and cable routing plans, grounding layouts, and equipment arrangements
ā¢ Prepare foundation and structural support drawings in coordination with civil/structural teams
ā¢ Generate bill of materials (BOM), cable schedules, and panel schedules
ā¢ Apply client-specific drafting standards and ensure consistency across deliverables
ā¢ Perform quality checks and redline reviews of drawings from junior designers
ā¢ Collaborate with engineers to resolve design issues and incorporate field markups
ā¢ Maintain organized drawing sets and revision control throughout the project lifecycle
Skills
ā¢ Associate degree or technical diploma in drafting/design or related field
ā¢ 8+ years of experience in substation design, with emphasis on both physical and P&C drafting
ā¢ Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD platforms
ā¢ Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and utility drafting standards
ā¢ Strong understanding of electrical components including breakers, transformers, relays, and control systems
ā¢ Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor documents
ā¢ Excellent organizational and communication skills
ā¢ Experience mentoring junior drafters and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams
