[Remote] Senior Database Administrator

The Senior Database Administrator will oversee the health, performance, security, and reliability of the database estate, working hands-on with SQL Server and Azure SQL to ensure optimal operations.ResponsibilitiesAdminister and maintain a variety of multi-terabyte databases across both SQL Server (on-premises and Azure VMs) and Azure SQL (PaaS) platformsOwn backup, restore, and recovery. Design, automate, and regularly test backups to meet defined RPO and RTO targets, and lead recovery efforts when neededMonitor and tune database and query performance; diagnose and resolve bottlenecks, blocking, and indexing issues across high-volume transactional and analytical workloadsImplement and maintain database security and data privacy controls, including access management, encryption, and auditing in line with our regulatory obligationsDesign, build, and maintain SSIS ETL packages and other data integration and data movement workflowsManage high availability and disaster recovery configurations (Always On availability groups, failover groups, geo-replication), and partner with development teams on schema design, query optimization, and safe deployment of database changesSkills8+ years of hands-on database administration experience, including significant time managing large-scale, production SQL Server environmentsDeep, hands-on expertise administering SQL Server in production at scale, including very large (multi-terabyte) databasesStrong working knowledge of Azure SQL (PaaS) and the broader Azure data platform; equally comfortable operating in PaaS and IaaS/on-premises modelsDemonstrated mastery of performance tuning and execution plans, indexing strategy, wait statistics, and query optimizationSolid command of backup/recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery design and testing, along with database security and data privacy practices (encryption, access control, auditing)Strong T-SQL skills and demonstrated experience with Azure SQL, SSIS, and database security and privacy controlsSelf-directed and dependable; you can be trusted to own critical systems with minimal oversight and serve as a credible second to our Director of Database ServicesBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent experience requiredRelevant Microsoft data platform certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate)BenefitsMedical, Dental, and VisionShort- and Long-Term Disability (Company Paid)Voluntary Long-Term DisabilityEmployee Life & AD&D (Company Paid)Voluntary Employee, Spouse, and Child Life & AD&DHealthcare, Dependent Care and Transit FSA, and Healthcare Savings Account (HSA)401K with a generous matching contribution and no vesting schedule20 days of PTO annually (prorated based on hire date)Company Paid Holidays and 2 “Choose Your Own Holidays”Company OverviewA simpler way to do home insurance.
