[Remote] Senior Accounting Specialist

Roaring Fork Tax & Accounting is seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist to manage complex client accounts and assist in financial cleanup tasks. The role involves taking ownership of accounting processes for various clients, particularly in construction and real estate, while leveraging technology to enhance efficiency.ResponsibilitiesCleaning up neglected or incorrect financials, working through prior periods to understand what happened and correct itRebuilding charts of accounts and resolving historical inaccuraciesOwning full-cycle AP/AR, progress billing, and accrual accounting for complex clientsHandling job costing, work-in-progress accounting, percentage-of-completion, and real estate transactionsRunning payroll through GustoManaging monthly transactions, reconciliations, closing journal entries, and first-draft financial statementsPreparing records for 1099 issuanceCommunicating with clients on their books and explaining financial information in plain languageSharing what you know with teammates and helping improve our processesUsing technology and AI tools to work more efficiently and accuratelySkills5+ years of complex accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experienceExperience with construction, real estate, and/or manufacturing accounting, including job costing, work-in-progress, percentage-of-completion, progress billing, and partnership capital accountsConfidence with the core work: recording transactions in QuickBooks Online, month-end close, first-draft financial statements, 1099 preparation, AP/AR, and reconciliationsQuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification, or willingness to earn it within three months (QuickBooks Desktop experience is welcome and recognized)Strong communication and client service skillsExcellent attention to detail and organizationAvailability during Mountain Time afternoon hours, when many of our clients reach outComfort learning and using technology and softwareExperience with Financial Cents or similar practice-management softwareExperience running payroll through GustoExperience serving construction, real estate, and other closely held business clientsFamiliarity with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar platformsBenefitsSIMPLE IRA with up to 3% company matchHealth insurance stipendWork-from-home technology stipend3 weeks paid time off and company holidays (pro-rated for part-time, growing with tenure)Annual fitness and recreation stipendProfit sharing opportunitiesComplimentary tax preparation servicesCompany Overview It was founded in undefined, and is headquartered in Basalt, Colorado, US, with a workforce of 2-10 employees.
