The North Carolina League of Municipalities is recruiting for a Public Safety Risk Management Consultant to work in the Risk Management Field Services Department. The role involves providing advanced risk management consulting related to public safety activities, particularly in law enforcement operations, and includes responsibilities such as consulting with police chiefs and developing training programs.ResponsibilitiesWill assist in the development and presentations of law enforcement and other public safety training programsWill analyze complex databases to identify loss trends, develops corrective action plans, prepares analysis reports and executive summaries for senior management and town councilsMonitors claims activity for assigned public safety departments and develops specialized training programs and policies to reduce accidents, injuries, and liability exposuresAssists in the development of exemplar public safety policies to mitigate liability exposures, particularly those associated with law enforcement activitiesAssists in the development of comprehensive programs to validate that public safety organizations are using risk management best practices in policy development, training, certifications, claims handling, hiring, and retentionReviews policies and standard operating procedures for compliance with general statutes and risk management best practicesServes as a resource for the NCLM police chiefs’ advisory committeeSkillsAt least 15 years of law enforcement experience5 years in criminal justice related organizational leadership including command level experience of a public safety department of at least 20 sworn officersA four-year degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, business administration, or other related field of study, or equivalent educational experienceUpper management level training including but not limited to FBINA, NC State-AOMP, SPI, or any recognized professional management development trainingActive membership in any of the N.C. professional law enforcement associationsExperience in accreditation managementPolicy oversight experienceProgram development experienceRecruiting experienceEvaluating experienceHiring experienceExperience in internal affairs matters and disciplinary actionExcellent writing skillsExperience speaking to small and large audiencesResidence in North CarolinaRegular travel within primarily western NCOccasional overnight staysBenefitsFull-time and a contributing member of the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS)Company OverviewThe North Carolina League of Municipalities is a member-driven organization representing the interests of cities and towns in the state.
