[Remote] Principal Platform & Release Governance Engineer

The Principal Platform & Release Governance Engineer will define and engineer the enterprise release governance model, transforming manual approval processes into automated, risk-based controls to enhance deployment safety and efficiency.ResponsibilitiesDefine and formalize enterprise release readiness standardsDesign and implement a maturity-based release model that enables self-service releases for qualified teamsReplace manual CAB evidence gathering with automated policy-as-code controls embedded in delivery pipelinesEstablish objective eligibility thresholds for self-approval and define escalation paths for non-complianceEnsure governance mechanisms are auditable, measurable, and aligned with business risk toleranceDesign and scale standardized CI/CD pipelines that embed:Automated security and compliance controlsQuality thresholds and testing gatesDeployment safety mechanisms (canary, progressive rollout, automated rollback)Automated release evidence collectionEncode governance standards as executable mechanisms rather than documentation or review boardsEnsure solutions scale consistently across dozens of systems without bespoke customizationOwn and oversee existing CAB and release workflows during the transformation periodSystematically eliminate recurring manual approval steps through engineered solutionsDeliver a two-year roadmap that transitions legacy governance mechanisms to automated equivalents as applications sunsetDirect contractor efforts aligned to platform and governance outcomesDrive cross-team adoption of standardized pipelines and maturity thresholdsInfluence engineering, AppSec, QA, and Cloud Operations stakeholders through working software and measurable outcomesPartner with leadership to align release standards with risk tolerance and operational resilience goalsAnalyze release-related incidents and systemic failure patternsConvert recurring release pain points into automation, guardrails, or eliminationUse telemetry and DORA metrics to guide prioritization and validate impactSkills8+ years designing or operating enterprise-scale CI/CD and release systemsDemonstrated experience transforming governance-heavy or approval-driven processes into automated mechanismsProven ability to define technical standards adopted across multiple teamsDeep expertise in policy-as-code, secure-by-default delivery systems, and automated compliance controlsExperience embedding safe deployment patterns at scaleSystems-level thinking across reliability, security, and velocity tradeoffsExperience modernizing or replacing CAB modelsExperience in federated DevOps or platform organizationsExperience building AI-assisted release readiness or incident automation workflowsFamiliarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Helm, containerization, and observability toolingCompany OverviewRisepoint partners with universities to create online degree programs and offers recruitment marketing and admissions services.
