They are seeking a Platform Engineer to support and enhance their cloud infrastructure and deployment workflows, working closely with Engineering and Science teams to improve operational practices and automation.ResponsibilitiesSupport AWS infrastructure for Carbon Mapper's application, data, and platform systems, including Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, AWS Batch, CloudWatch, S3, IAM, and networkingDeploy, configure, and troubleshoot cloud resourcesIdentify and implement infrastructure improvements to increase consistency, reliability, security, and cost efficiency across environmentsMaintain, improve, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines for application, data, and infrastructure workflows, including build, test, deployment, and rollback automationHelp standardize deployment workflows across services and environments by creating templates and examplesAutomate repetitive manual tasks and toilImprove logging, metrics, and dashboards for services, jobs, and data pipelinesParticipate in incident response and post-incident follow-up; help improve alerts, runbooks, recovery procedures, and reprocessing workflowsTriage and troubleshoot application, data pipeline, infrastructure, deployment, and alerting issues, and turn recurring problems into documentation, automation, or platform improvementsHelp implement practical guardrails for secure and efficient cloud operationsIdentify underused, misconfigured, or inconsistent resources, and work with senior engineers to strengthen security, access, and cost practicesWrite and maintain deployment guides, runbooks, troubleshooting procedures, operational references, and reusable examples for common engineering workflowsPartner with software engineers and scientists on effective use of platform toolsSkills3+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud operations, infrastructure, systems administration, software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical roleHands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud providerFamiliarity with serverless, containerized, or batch-oriented cloud workloadsExperience with CI/CD concepts and tools, preferably GitLab CI/CDExperience with scripting or software development in Python, Bash, JavaScript, or a similar languageFamiliarity with Linux command-line tools and common software development workflowsBasic understanding of networking, IAM/access control, environment configuration, and deployment conceptsFamiliarity with observability concepts such as logs, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and incident responseAbility to troubleshoot technical issues using logs, diagnostic tools, documentation, and methodical investigationStrong writing, documentation, communication, and collaboration skills across engineering and science teamsInterest in learning new tools, improving operational processes, and supporting production systemsExperience with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, AWS Batch, CloudWatch, S3, IAM, or VPC networkingExperience building or maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelinesExperience with New Relic, PagerDuty, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar observability and incident management toolsExperience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CDK for Python, Pulumi, or similarExperience with Docker, EKS, Kubernetes, JupyterHub, or related platform technologiesExperience supporting production systems, incident response, or on-call rotationsExperience supporting data pipelines, batch jobs, scientific workflows, geospatial data, or data-intensive cloud environmentsExperience with cloud cost monitoring, resource tagging, rightsizing, or infrastructure cleanupBenefitsAffordable health coverage (medical, dental, vision)A generous time-off policyProfessional developmentCompany OverviewCarbon Mapper provides locating, quantifying, and tracking methane and CO2 point-source emissions services.
