Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Referral Specialist (Access Center) is responsible for managing a high volume of referral orders in the electronic health record and making outbound calls to patients to schedule new patient appointments. This position serves as the initial point of contact for patients seeking to establish care with a BJCMG primary care provider. This position also utilizes an electronic health record to validate and capture clinical and financial information, contributing to the coordination of patient care. Responsibilities β€’ Manages a high volume of referral orders in electronic health record; makes outbound calls to schedule new patient appointments for patients without a PCP (primary care provider); manages incoming calls from multiple channels (BJCMG website, BJC website, vaccine clinics, employee clinics, etc.) for patients without a PCP who need to schedule a visit with a PCP; follows protocols for physician selection; schedules vaccine appointments. β€’ Manages referral orders from case managers and other providers; manages referral work queue and makes updates in the electronic health record. β€’ Schedules patient visits based on patient preferences; verifies and updates insurance and checks insurance eligibility; collects and documents demographics; maintains proficiency in and shares knowledge of insurance basics, MyChart, and appointment instructions. β€’ Provides excellent and consistent customer service; communicates in a professional, positive, and respectful manner with patients, providers, BJC staff and external organizations. β€’ Navigates the electronic health record to obtain and validate historical information; captures and documents demographic and financial information in the electronic health record; maintains accountability for accurate data entry in the electronic health record and maintains patient privacy and security as outlined by HIPAA. β€’ BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
