The Network Engineer Mid role focuses on managing and optimizing data networking operations, ensuring reliable service delivery, and contributing to continuous improvements in network performance and availability.ResponsibilitiesManage daily operations of enterprise data networks, including routing, switching, load balancing, and core connectivity servicesPerform day-to-day activities required to manage data services across production environmentsExecute moves, adds, and changes for network services while minimizing user impact and operational disruptionCoordinate with service owners and technical teams to maintain network availability, capacity, and performanceMonitor network health using approved enterprise tools; analyze device status, traffic trends, and service indicatorsPerform incident detection, triage, escalation, and resolution activities to restore services rapidly and reduce recurrenceSupport operational activities, including bridge calls, status communications, and shift handoff reporting as requiredContribute to service and operational reporting by tracking performance, outage trends, and corrective actionsDesign and implement network configuration changes and enhancements to improve reliability, scalability, and performanceOptimize routing paths, switching behavior, and load-balancing policies to reduce latency, packet loss, and service bottlenecksValidate network changes through testing and documented change-control processes before production deploymentPartner with vendors and internal stakeholders on circuit, telecom, and managed network service issues and escalationsMaintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration baselines, SOPs, and operational artifactsEnsure network operations and changes align with SEC security, compliance, and governance requirementsSupport root-cause analysis and problem management efforts to prevent repeat incidentsIdentify and implement process improvements that increase operational efficiency and service qualitySkillsCitizenship/Work Authorization: Must meet contract requirementsClearance: Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher if required)Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required4+ years of related experience managing enterprise data networks and data servicesAdvanced hands-on experience with routing, switching, and load balancing in production environmentsExperience performing day-to-day network operations, incident response, and service restoration using structured support processesStaffing-matrix core skills: advanced routing, switching, and load balancing for enterprise data networksAbility to design, manage, and maintain data networking services using a broad operational toolsetContract-context expansion (PWS): operational support for LAN/WAN/WLAN/VPN environmentsContract-context expansion (PWS): working knowledge of monitoring, performance analysis, documentation, and change-control practicesExperience supporting federal agency or other regulated enterprise network environmentsContract-context expansion (PWS): experience with Cisco network and unified communications platforms (e.g., Cisco UCM/Unity/Webex integrations)Contract-context expansion (PWS): hands-on experience building operational dashboards and alerts for network SLA/performance managementContract-context expansion (PWS): familiarity with zero-trust network controls, secure configuration baselines, and audit-ready operationsContract-context expansion (PWS): ability to script or automate recurring network operational tasks and reportingCCNA or CCNP EnterpriseITIL 4 FoundationCompTIA Security+Company OverviewLeidos is an industry and technology leader serving government and commercial customers with smarter, more efficient digital and mission innovations.
