RISINGSUN TECHNOLOGIES is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to provide engineering design support for advanced nuclear energy projects. The role involves collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive the design, procurement, fabrication, testing, and implementation of complex mechanical systems and components.ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical component design activities supporting operating nuclear power plants and advanced reactor technologiesDevelop engineering specifications, design concepts, calculations, drawings, and technical documentationSupport equipment design, fabrication, installation, and testing activitiesPerform mechanical component analysis, design verification, and integration activitiesExecute engineering hand calculations and analytical modelingEnsure designs meet intended application requirements, safety objectives, and regulatory standardsDemonstrate accountability for technical quality, cost, schedule, and execution of assigned projectsProvide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teamsSupport project planning, resource allocation, and schedule developmentMentor junior engineers and contribute to talent development initiativesServe as a technical liaison between engineering teams, project stakeholders, suppliers, and customersPrepare and present design reviews, technical reports, and engineering recommendationsLead technical discussions and facilitate collaboration across cross-functional teamsTrack technical risks and develop mitigation strategiesSupport product requirements management and engineering change activitiesCollaborate closely with sourcing teams, suppliers, fabricators, and equipment manufacturersProvide technical oversight during procurement, fabrication, and installation phasesSupport manufacturing readiness reviews and fabrication issue resolutionEvaluate fabrication methods, materials, tolerances, welding practices, and assembly processesDevelop and document innovative engineering solutionsPrepare invention disclosures and technical documentation supporting intellectual property developmentPromote continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practicesSkillsBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering disciplineMinimum 5 years of experience in the energy industry, nuclear industry preferred, or a comparable technical environmentMinimum 2 years of experience working directly with customers, regulators, suppliers, or external stakeholdersExperience supporting complex mechanical equipment design programsMust be eligible to access information controlled under U.S. Export Control Regulations. Eligibility requirements will be reviewed during the hiring process5+ years of experience performing component design, technical reviews, procurement support, fabrication support, and requirements management5+ years of experience applying industry standards such as ASME, AWS, and other applicable engineering codesMinimum 2 years of ASME Section III Valve Design experiencePrior nuclear industry experience supporting: Boiling Water Reactors (BWR), Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR), Advanced Reactor TechnologiesExperience with lifting and rigging equipment selection, load path analysis, safety factor calculations, and applicable industry standardsStrong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilitiesWorking knowledge of fabrication processes, machining, welding, EDM, and manufacturing practicesExperience with material selection, tolerance analysis, welding design, and joint designFamiliarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologiesStrong leadership and interpersonal skillsExcellent communication and presentation abilitiesStrategic thinker with strong problem-solving capabilitiesAbility to work effectively in a matrixed engineering organizationDemonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and technical challenges in a fast-paced environmentBenefitsCore collaboration hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM ESTFlexible working hours outside core business hoursCandidates are not required to reside in the Eastern Time ZoneOccasional travel within the United States and Canada may be requiredCompany OverviewRisingSun Technologies provides on-demand IT staffing, training, business technology services, and outsourcing.
