[Remote] Manager, Data Science (Product Analytics)

They are seeking a Data Science Manager to lead the Product Analytics team, guiding product decisions through quantitative data insights and managing a team of data scientists to ensure timely delivery and data accuracy.ResponsibilitiesInforming strategy, guiding product decisions, and assessing the impact of product development work through your teamβs timely delivery of accurate quantitative data and insights β balancing the need to operate in a fast-changing environment with appropriate rigorProactively making recommendations on product direction and data strategy, surfacing insights and interpreting resultsPeople management for a team of roughly seven data scientists and nurturing a strongly collaborative and inclusive culture of trust, excellence, and empowermentMentoring team members on critical thinking, data-informed storytelling, technical skillset, and stakeholder partnershipContinuous development and improvement of experimentation and measurement best practices, product health metrics, visualizations, and reports for easier interpretation and increased accessibilityPartnering with the Experiment Platform & Data Engineering teams to build and maintain data products that make data and insights accessibleCollaborating with product teams β especially product managers β and colleagues in the Research & Decision Science group to cultivate a practice of data-informed product development and decision makingSkillsDeep experience with experimental design and statistics, applied to internet-scale audience or user experience dataExperience collaborating with product development teams in a fast-paced environment to test, analyze, and evaluate user-facing featuresPrior experience as a people managerDemonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversityExperience with large-scale data processing & storage tools (we use Hadoop, Hive, Presto, and Spark)Ability to identify where data can have the most impact and clearly communicate findings and recommendations to partner teamsDiscretion and competence in handling sensitive or confidential dataCuriosity and critical thinking skills; a lifelong learner who sees situations through multiple lensesA coach and mentor with high emotional intelligence: evidenced by humility, tact, compassion, high levels of integrity, and good listening skillsA facilitator with strong collaboration skills and an empowerment approach to open and transparent managementEmpathy towards and commitment to work with the Wikimedia volunteer communitiesCommitment to the mission of the organization and our values and guiding principlesSelf-motivated with an ability to navigate through ambiguity and complexityExposure to, and interest in, ethical data management and privacy practicesContributed to Wikimedia projects or have experience working in other open source projectsExperience with Superset, Growthbook, or other open-source testing, data visualization, or reporting toolsBenefitsU.S. Benefits & PerksCompany OverviewWikimedia Foundation encourages the development and distribution of free educational content with projects such as Wikipedia.
