[Remote] Linux System Engineer

CornerStone Technology Talent Services is seeking a Senior Splunk & Linux Systems Engineer to support a secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure. The role involves managing Splunk and Linux systems, ensuring mission-critical systems are monitored and running efficiently in a highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Maintain and monitor Splunk Enterprise in a Linux cluster environment
ā¢ Manage indexes, data sources, and log pipelines
ā¢ Onboard new servers and log sources (Linux & Windows)
ā¢ Develop advanced dashboards and train teams on usage
ā¢ Upgrade Splunk Enterprise and Universal Forwarders
ā¢ Identify and implement architecture improvements
ā¢ Manage Linux servers supporting Splunk clusters
ā¢ Oversee file systems, permissions, and configurations
ā¢ Use automation tools like Ansible or SaltStack
ā¢ Version control with Git or Bitbucket
ā¢ Create Bash scripts to improve operational efficiency
ā¢ Troubleshoot log ingestion, indexing, and search performance issues
ā¢ Partner with other system admins to deploy forwarders and validate log flow
ā¢ Mentor junior engineers and share best practices
ā¢ Contribute to initiatives that optimize infrastructure and monitoring
ā¢ Operate in a secure, compliance-driven environment (CUI)
ā¢ Follow strict workstation and access control standards
ā¢ Be eligible to work in secure virtual desktop environments
Skills
ā¢ 5+ years Splunk Enterprise administration in production
ā¢ 5+ years Linux systems administration
ā¢ 5+ years Bash scripting and automation
ā¢ Strong knowledge of distributed Splunk architecture
ā¢ Experience with enterprise log pipelines and troubleshooting
ā¢ Working in VDI-based environments
ā¢ Supporting research, higher education, or regulated enterprise systems
ā¢ Improving Splunk architecture for scalability and performance
ā¢ Associate degree or equivalent experience
ā¢ Active Splunk certification preferred
