[Remote] Lead Test Automation Engineer

As a Lead Test Automation Engineer, you will drive the strategic and hands-on direction of the Test Automation practice, mentoring engineers and collaborating with teams to enhance automation practices and ensure quality across the organization. Responsibilities • Lead the transformation and establishment of a Testing Center of Excellence (TCoE). • Mentor, manage, and coach Test Automation Engineers, including junior team members. • Oversee multiple automation teams or projects, ensuring alignment with business and technical goals. • Define and execute quality strategies that support continuous testing across engagements. • Architect and implement automation frameworks from scratch using Ruby and Java. • Develop automated tests for APIs, UI, services, and integration points. • Recommend and apply advanced design patterns (page objects, BDD, modular frameworks). • Identify and resolve automation challenges, process bottlenecks, and tooling gaps. • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines across all testing levels. • Coach teams across different business units and/or clients. • Create documentation, playbooks, and best-practice guidelines for automation. • Deliver trainings and workshops on automation strategies, design patterns, and new technologies. • Conduct code reviews, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and quality of automation solutions. • Define and track key automation KPIs (coverage, flakiness, pipeline stability, cycle time). • Present automation strategies, innovation opportunities, and quality insights to leadership. • Provide clear reporting and dashboards on progress, risks, and automation maturity. • Collaborate with architects and engineering leads to ensure testability from early stages. • Ensure automation solutions are well-documented, robust, and scalable. • Support continuous testing to reduce regression cycles and enhance release confidence. Skills • 6–7 years of experience in Software Quality Engineering / Test Automation. • 5–6 years specifically as a Test Automation Engineer with increasing leadership responsibilities. • Proven experience managing and mentoring automation engineers or teams. • Demonstrated ability to build automation frameworks from scratch in both Ruby and Java (mandatory). • Strong experience with Ruby and Java automation tools/libraries: RSpec, Cucumber, JUnit, TestNG, Selenium/WebDriver, REST clients. • Solid experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, CircleCI. • Hands-on experience covering unit, integration, system, and E2E test automation. • Experience driving or contributing to a Testing Center of Excellence (TCoE) or similar quality transformation. • Strong communication skills to present strategies and metrics to technical and non-technical stakeholders. • U.S. Citizenship required • Experience testing email environments (content validation, delivery, notifications, integrations). • Experience in performance, reliability, or security test automation. • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). • Consulting or multi-client background.
